I am a bit confused, I don't own this game so I am wondering exactly how you would trade. I know it's not online, so do you trade memory cards or something?

I've been playing this game for a while, but how do you exchange items with other players?

- nevermind i just looked at gamefaqs:

"First, make sure that the item that you wish to trade is in your
inventory. Then go to Tom Nook's shop (he is the raccoon/tanuki who
gave you your house). Talk to give and on the first menu choose "Other
Things." On the next list of options choose "Hear Code." You will be
prompted to input the name of the town and the name of the individual
whom you would like to send the item to. Do so. Next, you will be
prompted to choose the item you wish to send. If the item you want to
send is darkened, it cannot be traded. More on that in the third
section. After choosing the item, you will be asked if that is the item
you wish to send and that the name of the person and town are correct.
After being reconfirmed, you will be given the passcode."

i got it from

If you look at the technical side, it works like this:

Ok so we know that you chose an item, and Nook (the guy responsible) will generate a password for you.

basicly what he's doing is generate a password based on some mathematical and logical calculations related to your town name, your name, and the item. that means if you want to send a pear, and your friend wants to send a pear, you won't have the same passwords.

So far so good? ok.

Now if every letter and number, in a specific order, coupled with a certain item, gives you a certain password that's generated from that information, that means nothing has to be registered right?

So what about trading?

Well if i give you my "pear" password, and you enter it, the game unfolds the password into 3 parts: The person the present was given by, the town name they lived in, and the item. It's simple, the password is just a mixed up town name, name and item name.

You probably want to know how the person that received the password, once have taken the item, can trigger the loss of the past owner's item?

Simple: When you want to make a pear password for your friend, you have to basicly delete that item, because Nook (person responsible) is withdrawing your item, and deleting it (technically), then giving you the password.

So all in all, if you know the concept of the password generation, you can get free items, without triggering the loss of the person's item. You can even generate one without the person having the damn thing.

So what if i have the same name/town name as someone else? you guessed it, if you know the password given to him, you can get that same item...which is the only flaw in this whole thing.

But isn't it fun to just track a trader and get all the goodies?
