I have a new HDTV and would like to get the best picture possible from my PS2 and Gamecube. What cables should I use for each of them?

HDTV cables. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Or also known as Component cables.

They have 3 seperate color coded plugs for the video signals and the standard two for audio.

My 1st party Sony PS2 one cost 30 USD and the GC one is only availible through Nintendo or online retailers such as Lik-sang, about 35 USD.

You have to hold down B before your game loads I believe to get the HD signal prompt on GC.

Simply switch to the right mode on your PS2's start up menu and switch the cables.

Also look into a 2 or 3 way cable from a third party since it will be way cheaper and probably can be used for a PS2/XBOX/GC(&Snes/N64).

I would buy a component cable for them, but I hate having to change the cables each time for a different console and I heard if you use one of them things where you can plug into multiple component cables into then you lose a lot of the quality.

That's called a hub.

Oh, and Good luck finding one from Nintendo (http://store.nintendo.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&langId=-1&currency=USD&ignoreCrumbs=N&crumb1=&crumb1Ignore=&crumb2=%253CA%2BHREF%253D%2522javascript%253APassO n%2528%2527X%2527%252C%2B%2527ChooseView%2527%252C %2527%2527%252C%2B%2527%2527%2529%253B%2522%253ENi ntendo%2BGameCube%253C%252FA%253E&crumb2Ignore=&crumb3=%253CA%2BHREF%253D%2522javascript%253APassO n%2528%2527C%2527%252C%2B%2527CategoryDisplay%2527 %252C%252744009%2527%252C%2B%2527N%2527%2529%253B% 2522%253EParts%2B%2526%2BAccessories%253C%252FA%25 3E&crumb3Ignore=&translateFrom=%C8%C9%C7&translateTo=EEC&usrSearchText=&searchText=&selSrchType=&page=&view=&productId=63594&categoryId=44009&lastAction=ProductDisplay&orderTotal=null). Statistics say that less than 1% of the gamecube owners use the component port, so they stopped making/selling the cables. The port is completly removed from the newer gamecubes too.

On the other hand, eBay (http://search.ebay.com/component-cable-gamecube_W0QQfrppZ50QQfsopZ1QQmaxrecordsreturnedZ3 00) always has shit in stock. n.n Keep an eye on the $51 pricetag though.

My local import shop has them available for $30. Go me. Personally, smart move on Nintendo's part to stop supporting it. Very few gamecube games support the feature to begin with (not even many first party) in addition to people not using it much. Personally, I'd just say stick with the cable it comes with.

GC doesn't support HD as far as I know. Holding B gives you the 50/60hz option which is standard really.

Well, I meant holding down B for progressive scan support with the HD/Component Cables for GC apparently.

Had to go look up my PSO Ep 1&2 Instruction manual for that info. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Yeah I still have 2. I never knew others use them but I keep 1 in case I lose 1. The other is for my 62' and I hate bad picture... and I don't play on TVs less than 50' anymore http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

If you don't buy a crappy one, you would. I use a component video switcher and it works just fine. It's a JVC JX-S111 and I have my XBox, Gamecube and PS2 plugged into it via component. No video signal loss.
