Everybody that has Super Smash Bros. Melee go play it now! I havent played it in years and ive been playing it a lot with my brothers lately. Its such a good game too, considering that it came out 5 years back and its still better quality that a lot of the newer games that are out.

So go play it with a friend or something i guarantee you won't regret it.

Too bad there's no online though.http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Feh. All you little kiddies and your melee shit.
Characters nerfed to hell and all that. Ness .. doesn't work anymore. Any hardcore yoshi player knows yoshi's not the midair whore he used to be. Overall. Oh, and it's not fun when half the characters are given meteor smashes too. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

I recently tried to play Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo 64 and it didn't work out so well. Turns out my reflexes have improved too much to work with the lag associated with the Nintendo 64. D'oh! In any event, I enjoyed both games, and still occasionally boot up Melee, albeit rarely now.

Ness was amazing on N64. I was pretty irritated that they nerfed him so badly in SSBM. The game itself is pretty cool, though. Especially when you've got lots of people to play it with. I may just start playing it again... when I'm done with VO:OT http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

My GOD Yoshi was the god of air in the old game, and no stupid meteor bicycle kick either. That totally destroyed his killer kicks.

I play only with other people.

Well, seeing as they've already confirmed the new one WILL be online...

But yeah, nobody can talk about nerfing characters without mentioning how badly Kirby was nerfed from the first to second. He went from nigh-unstoppable to just another character.

Anywho, as much as I loved the first one, the second is just better in about every way. The fighting system experienced an impressive overhaul, but even though it's so different, the game changed for the better as far as I'm concerned.

Kinda ironic that all the best party games, are the nintendo multiplayer games, and ... not the mario party games. >_>;

To be expected, when said party game goes at a slower pace than a fighter type.

And about SSBM...I only like to play Slow-Mo Melee because they don't record stats in Special Melee. Keeping track of stats and stuff kills my enjoyment for a game. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif Like in the case of Battlefront 2 and its stupid Kill/Death ratio. I felt like I had to at least acheive that in every battle I had, and I ended up not playing it for fun; I was just playing so I could keep my Kill/Death ratio up. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif I don't play Battlefront 2 anymore.

I like the stats on SSBM, and even if you didn't, to get to see your stats is pretty out of your way XD

I always love seeing the Total % Damage Given/Taken.

EDIT: And most used/least used, but that doesn't change much. Roy/Fox for first and second, and Jigglypuff for least.

My friends and I have been playing it lately, and I've gotten really rusty. I mean, they can beat me if I use a character I'm not usually good with XD

"Ok Ryan, you aren't allowed to use Pikachu, Pichu, Mewtwo, Game and Watch, Roy, Marth, Link, Young Link, Samus or Kirby"

But the only reason I'm not allowed to use Game and Watch is because my other friend uses him all the time! And when he didn't use him...I owned with him. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

It's always funny when there's two people left, I'm Kirby, and I got more stocks than the other person. Murder-suicide tactics! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

I don't pay much attention to the stats, I don't even know what character gets used the most often with me. Least is easilly Yoshi and Jigglypuff though.(I don't even think anyone has used Jigglypuff once since our data got deleted XD)

If you're playing a game like WarioWare solely to beat the single player game once then you're obviously involved in the wrong hobby. I hear knitting is nice.

Now as I was saying, WarioWare on the GCN is an excellent party game, but I'm not sure it's worth the full price.

And I personally like seeing stats from time to time. I generally don't look at them, though.

You fiend! I got some friends who love playing Marth and that range of his is simply killer to all the characters I play except for Jiggly.

Those five jumps of hers and the forward or backward midair A just stops them dead flat. If not that, forward B midair because it stalls you for a half a second (to juke 'em) and has very good priority. Even better is if you can catch them with down A. Instant kill on most stages if they're above 30-40%.

Say, any Ganon or Zelda (not Sheik) players here? Who do you use?

Yea, I had a shitload of fun with the game until I beat it...then I had a little bit of fun. My friends would play it too, but I could destroy them so easily even in 3v1 and stuff that there just wasn't any challenge, so there wasn't any fun. ._. Having it online would be interesting, as you're guarenteed to find someone of equal skill, though. =D

Took me awhile but I mastered mewtwo and my friends didn't believe so I just destroyed them with him XD.

Jigglypuff is also another character underestimated because she is a very good character especially that rollout attack of hers.

Pikachu is another favorite of mine that they have made better.

The final character that I play with the most is Ganondorf, he has great power and can destroy anyone but his jumping is crap and I only wish he had his set of moves instead of just a clone of Capt. Falcon.

Rollout is pretty good if you get away from the main battle and can charge it up. If you catch someone in the air, it'll send them flying. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Pikachu is fun but not the best. I tend to do a lot of short hop neutral As or midair back As. Also harrasing falling players with the lightning is fun. ^_^

LIES! He might be slow but if you can jump lightly (short hop), his forward, back, and down A is unbeatable. Foreward A will counter even power missiles from Samus. Back A can combo into another really quick. Down A to spike on edges or to bounce them off the ground and ring them out at the top of the screen. If you jump normally and use C-stick Down (much better than down A because you're less likely to fast fall), you'll catch just about everyone trying to short hop.

Captain Falcon rocks too. Knee! Knee! Knee! Long jump, spike!

I play Ganon, Mario, Dr. Mario, Falco, Jigglypuff, Zelda, Sheik, and Capt. Falcon. I'm stilling rusty with Marth, Fox, Roy, Peach. I can't touch Samus or Link 'cause I got two wanker friends who abuse their moves. Down smash or up B. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif

Well, one of them plays Samus with some competence but the other just charges the shots and does C-stick down. He's fun to cape with Mario. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Try her foreward smash and dash A. Both have great range and power. But yes, her electric toes (the boot as my friends call it) are lovely; very fast, good range, does 20% damage or so, excellent knock too.

Yoshi for life....jumpin around meteor smashing eveyrone just cuz it was so easy. He's fast enough to handle all the super fast characters and strong enough to handle Ganondorf etc. And so what if he doesnt have a B-up move just use R in mid-air to give you a couple feet, enough to grab on to the edge.

If you need more horizontal to survive, you can use Egg Roll, Granted you fall quickly, you can roll ON to the stage (not edge hang) and do damage trying.

Yoshi's main strength isn't in his air like it use to be. (In SSB, he had 4 amazingly abusive strikes and the meteror) Now its only 3, Still not bad, just his Tail smacking shouldn't be used unless your combo hungry.

Link tends to be a vastly underrated character, from my experiences. He's who I use mostly, and I have to say, he's got quite a bit tucked under his sleep. Really, the only way to use him is to constantly be harrassing your opponents with his bombs, arrows, and boomerang. Most people can't handle a good Link solely because they're never sure of which way to move or because they're defenses keep getting lowered due to being hit by one of the previously mentioned attacks.

Not to mention he has some incredibly powerful attacks and fakes that can really mess with an opponent.

And that extremely cheap shield that can just deflect projectile attacks.

I'm not gonna say Link is bad, cause that's just really far from the truth. Frankly, I think he's one of the easiest characters to play. But then again, I play every character, so it doesn't matter (Except Jigglypuff http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif)

My favourites are Roy (My friend partners up with Marth), Fox (My friend partners up with Falco http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif), and Ganondorf (My friend partners up with... Ice Climbers)

I prefer either 2 on 2 or 1 on 1, I don't really like free for all much http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif For Marth and Roy, that used to be our strongest team, but then we really picked up with Fox/Falco and Ganon/IC and now they're almost the easy pickings http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif But our Fox and Falco is C-R-A-Z-Y http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Although Link is very easy to use, its not like he lacks advanced techniques, most of which I learned by getting pwned by my SSB:M master friend. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

As in his Down+A attack with his sword when jumping. You can hold down to move faster either diagonally or straight down and thus short jump onto someone again and again with little floaty/lob jumping and thus limiting how much time you are in the air and open to all attacks.

You can also cancel out of the long animation it takes to remove his sword from the ground if it misses the enemy by using R.

So imagine two Links throwing projectiles back and forth bombs in the air up or while jumping, down onto the opponent, plus plenty of that Down+A tactic. Throws too. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

But I'm with Astuarlen and am not good at the fighting games at all.

But it doesn't help when its a 4 way game and they only attack me, instead of mr SSB:M master, then its me and him left always and I lose by the 1 life that I lost to being triple teamed by said fools earlier! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_cry.gif

Oh and yeah PJ, Final Destination is the true way to play. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif Nowhere to run and your skills show up front and center. If not there, I'll suffice for Zelda's Castle or that Pokemon Colisseum(if not for those damn stage raises it would be Final Destination #2).

I like games that are very balanced because if you like a specific caracter just for sheer sake of fandom or their individual style, you can use them and enjoy the game without getting annhialated because your character is a weak one. When it came to this, I was pretty happy with SSBM.

I'm craaazy about crossover games like Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Marvel vs. Series. I'd like to see more games like them as long as they're balanced and well made. And I'm really looking foward to the next Smash Bros game.

I pretty much agree across the board. However, I imagine my reflexes would probably benefit if I started using R+A to grab instead of Z. Less movement of my fingers from their default positions, y'know? It's something I wanna test out some day.

Items off, and either me choose a stage () or random. My brothers ALWAYS CHOOSE FINAL DESTINATION. Hence why I hate them choosing http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

Stock ALWAYS. There's like 4k matches logged on my memory card and maybe 10 or less are coin and probably not one is bonus. The rest are stock and the few timed matches that happened because it's the default setting.

There's only one thing I'll C-stick. Well, two. The first is for short hops with a down attack. Ganon, Falcon, and Falco can abuse this so well. The second is when I play Sheik or Mario. C-stick down! It's quick and has good priority.

Button jumps are better than using the control stick but I'll use it to jump out of shielding.

R, too! Just a little note, did you know you can shield a move, and just grab your attacker (assuming you're facing them) with A? I had no idea for the longest time.

We used to play Hyrule Temple but as we got better, the zoom out got annoying so then everyone stayed underground resulting in regular 200+% deaths. The maps we play on now is almost always Final Desination and some Peach's Castle, Green Greens (apples ftw!), and the old Yoshi's Island stage.

No items though 'cause I'd whore them whatever they'd be. Although, we'll play with the ice sometimes.

My problem with Final Destination is that since there's no tricks to it, I think it favours the really strong characters. But of course, since there's a huge gap between the end of the arena and the platform, and the strong characters are also the heavy ones, they have a tough time of getting back on the platform.

For me...
Time>Stock, because I never actually finish anything and just play until I'm bored.
I use the Control Stick for smashing, because you can't charge with C-Stick...
I use X to jump. I never touch the Y button in Melee.
I use Z to grab people, it's just much simpler.
And the R button for dodging.
I use items, with frequency on Very High and everything but Starmen. That is the only item you really can't stop.
And I like the F-Zero stages because of the scrolling action, Hyrule Temple because it's huge, Fourside because of the music, Flat Zone because of the music, and Battlefield and Final Destination because of the background and music. (Who doesn't like Multi-Man Melee music?) There are probably more, but I'm too lazy to fire up the Cube and find out.

There's lots of tricks to get back in on Final Destination. The only ones that really have trouble (that I can think of) is Dr. Mario, Yoshi, Bowser (if it's mostly horizontal), Cptn. Falcon (same issue), Ness (people can take the Up B hit and just let Ness fall), Ice Climbers (if Nana isn't around or KOed), and Young Link (has HookShot, not LongShot).

That's only 7 out of 26 (counting Sheik as her own).

Although you could complain that certain characters get back on it WAY too easy. Fox, Ganon, Mario, Samus (ESSPECIALLY SAMUS), Jiggypuff, and Sheik (Zelda has longer range but her air control isn't as good).

Playing with X/Y?

I don't see how you guys do that.

Do you eventually grow to favor it over time? Because it just seems difficult to use to me.

Stock > Time. For true.

Edit:BTW, can anyone inform me how to use Samus' heat-seeking grapple hook? A confirmed button combo would be appreciated, rather than, "just press a lot of buttons around this area and it'll work."

Thanks.

None that I can do. All I hear is do a throw, press Z a bunch AND rotate the D-pad around. That makes it extra long but it won't home and grab in unless you hold R or L then press A or Z to reel them in.

I originally got a gamecube for that game. I lost my N64 version along time ago. Jigglypuff is the shizits man! Though I have a mean game with Samus and Marth. I love to wave dash and annoy the hell out of my friends cause they can't hit me! C-Stick or Manual, Time or Stock?

In SSBM I prefer the fighters with close range and decent power. Dr.Mario, Falco and Fox are characters I like to play with a lot. Nothing beats the feeling of beating your foe with your fist.

Link is ok, but if you play too close to the edge i find that you die too easy, unless your really good with using you grapling hook and grabbing on to the side of the stage to get back up.

Or go UP+B spam on purpose when people are near the edge or being a cheapo and hanging on the edge so you cannot grab it to get back on the stage.

(only one person can grab the edge at a time)

I hated my friend soo much for that one little tactic of his. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

My brother called this the, "Sweet spot."

So I started calling killing him the, "Sweet Spot."

I get a lot more sweet spots than he does now.

SSBM has always bothered me when I bring it up with people I haven't played, because it's such a simplistic formula that everyone who's played it thinks they're a god at it.

Coin match is fun whenever you use only pokemon balls on VERY HIGH (item)

But I prefer NO ITEM Stock x10 matches since much can happen in a fight.

But I never lose anyways... lives I lost out of 10 are about 1-7.

For True.
I wish they had online for this game.
Next platform though, that's when all the talkers will get what's coming to them...

Speaking of GOD at the game, I played at my cousins house one day, and played someone who i had never met before, about two years older than me maybe, but he was nice. Anyways, it was hilarious because every two minutes this guy would say,"I am god at this game, you can't beat me." and of course, *Dies at instant of my attack*

After that, he would always say,"I'm god at this game, I can beat everyone, except for that one kid..."
