And my god was it annoying....we won in the end but is there any better strategy than just chase him around?

yes for the first form aim for the spinners. Look for the red spinners if there are non then go after the orange or yellow ones.

That will make it lift it's tail from the ground and be wide open too attack.

The second form you will have to chase it.

do NOT use 1 on 1 weapons ofr the second part, as it makes the fight a lot longer.

Use slicers or shots.

Yes, after you destroy one crystal in the 2nd phase, the boss runs away, so by hitting with a shot/needle/slicer, you can sometimes take out 2, or even 3 crystals before it runs.
