I have been playing PSO for a while on my big tv that has its colors all messed up, but when i play my 360 which is in hd my picture is fine. So i was thinking of eihter getting an s-vid cord or a compostite cable and i was wondering, which is better?

Component Cables.

Which are a little more rare for Gamecube.

Order them direct from the little pamphlets you get in their game manuals/hardware boxes, or from nintendo.com, or online retailers such as Lik-Sang.

S-Video is a step up from the regular RGB cables-composite cables that come with your GC.

So orderwise:

RF < RGB composite < S-Video < Component HDTV cables

Make sure your GC can take component though. The new models had it removed.

Froogle says... hmm. Good luck. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

But seriously, you might want look at Monster Cable (http://www.wildwestelectronics.net/ggcgl200-r-10.html). I have the S-video version and it works well enough. You know, oppose to not working I guess. The picture is sharper than with the standard A/V cord that comes with the GC.

Well. Firstly, Nintendo doesn't directly support the componetn cable any more, due to "less than 1% of gamecube owners using the feature" Hence, removed from new gamecubes, and no longer on nintendo.com

It's overpriced on ebay, because that's the only widely known available source for outdated products.

I think you'll have better luck poking around local import shops. The import shop I go to still has abunch of those cube component cables. Never sold em'

Honestly, take a look at nintendo's viewpoint on it. There are less than 10 games that support the feature, out of the hundreds of cube games out. Almost nobody bought the cable. Nobody cares. Well, except that 1% but they don't matter. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Actually, if I recall correctly, the last listing I saw stated there are quite a few games that support the cable. Many, many more than one would think.

That's a partial list right there, and I know for a fact that it's missing quite a few games.

They stopped making the BBA because only about 7 games used it, and nobody was really buying those games or the adaptor itself.

They stopped including the component port because apparently only about 1% of all GCN users were using it and they would save money by making the system without it.

A bit on the subject, apparently not all Platinum 'Cubes are missing the Component out feature. While I haven't taken pictures of it, my Platinum 'Cube came with full support.

HOWEVER, there is a port missing. That is the second serial port on the bottom, the one that has nothing to plug into it. I purchased it a few months after the price drop to $99.98. I'm just curious when they removed the Component port off the rear. Does anyone happen to have that information available?

It appears that cost-cutting measures along with the limited number of users that actually took advantage of the port lead to it's removal. That's the generally accepted (if not official) story.

So wait, the bottom port is missing? Which number?

I wish I could remember if they ever announced what they planned on plugging into that one.

Oh, and an easy way to tell if there will be a component port or not, thanks to Wikipedia:

Models without the port are DOL-101. The original system with the port is model DOL-001.

Serial Port 2 is missing. Adding to the confusion, it has a DOL-001. I would be interested to see if that port is missing on DOL-101 models as well.

It's weird that you would have the old serial number despite the fact that they removed a serial port.

But if that's the case, I wouldn't be surprised if the new models are also missing that port.

Nintendo can never really make up their minds.

So they plan ahead for a minimum of two base ports. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Check your NES and SNES.

N64 had less but two overall right?

RAM cart + HDD add on.

A shame the GC one not for online play got no use.

Wait, what does the Gamecube/Gameboy Player connect to?

It connects to the "Hi Speed Port".
