I have a Datel keyboard which is just bascally a PS/2 PC Keyboard with a Gamecube adaptor.
It seems to lag badly and lose charaters when typing.

I'd like to know:

a) Is this just symptomatic of a laggy net connection and
the extra latency on the Australian network links to
the US and EUR servers?

b) Does the Datel keyboard just suck?

c) Is my Datel adaptor faulty. (I tried another PC
keyboard plugged into it with similar results)

d) Will a proper ASCII or Sammy KB controller work better?

e) Which is better the ASCII or the Sammy?

I have a few friends who use Sammy and say it is excellent ... if you can find it. For a good price.

Find it at a good price. Hmmm that's a trick.
I'm pretty much forced to look on eBay and pay
outrageous prices and expensive shipping.

BTW Devin, thanks again for the help the other night.

Yeah, "reasonable" seemed too far-fetched concerning price. XD And no problem, always happy to help. ^_^

As far as I can tell the Sammy and the original ASCII are pretty much identical. I've always been content with using a keyboard with built in controller. The Sammy board comes with a pack of (paper) Episode 3 cards http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
Both boards will be hard to find now though.
This site still seems to have an ASCII. http://store.gameasylum.us/gamkeyconfor.html
It comes at a high price and I never shopped there myself (so use common sense if you decide it's worth it's price) http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

A) Depends how the network in australia is. If the network there is developed then lag is not an issue. For example, I have an interview with my Indian counterparts and their network infrastructure is underdevelop. They only have an ISDN line so they lag a lot in video conferences.

B) I use a adapter from ebay and it works with any keyboard. I don't have any lag when using it.

Does the Sammy keyboard have Japanese Kana on the keys
like the ASCII keyboard?

A) It is not your net connection. US players with the Datel keyboard on US servers have had problems.
B) The keyboard is fine.
C) The adaptor is not really faulty, but all of the adaptors give lag/extra key presses when the adaptor becomes hot (probably more of a design flaw). Some people suggest taking the plastic cover off of the cover, and you can slow down your typing (it is annoying, but necessary if you don't want to pay a ton of money for something else).
D) Not sure
E) Not sure

Thanks to all the people who offered advice,
I've fixed the problem by hunting down another PC
keyboard that draws less current!

The one I have now is rated at 50mA maximum draw.
I don't know what the original Datel Powerboard one was.
It seems the power requirements of PC keyboards can vary
quite a bit. The Keyboard on my Dell at work says
1.5 Amp! A quick look around the keyboards in our
junk box at work found:

(mA is milli Amp 1/1000 of an Amp)

35mA (This one was in use, otherwise I would have grabbed it.)
50mA Yes this one worked well!
60mA
300mA
500mA

Hope this info gets out to other Datel users having problems.

Yes it does. It's practically identical to the ASCII.
