Yeah, so lately I've been looking at things to record video(Ya know, video game nerds). I want a video capture card, or a USB thing, either work. If anything, I want something below $50, since quality isn't THAT important to me. Just being able to record video would be cool http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Before I go and buy anything though, I wanna know if something like this can be used for recording stuff from a video game console:

I would assume so, since it has the composite cable things, but it just says VCR, DVD, all that, and I'd rather make sure first before I go and buy anything.

Of course, I probably won't buy that one, if anyone has any suggestions for a good video capture device below $60, I'd be happy to hear it http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

EDIT: Although I'd prefer a USB thing over an actual card(Easier to move around, although only slightly). Both are good if they got the right price http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Get a card if you've got the expansion slot for one, and I'd recommend something from Pinnacle (http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Home/).

USB is great if you don't mind a lot of dropped frames and unplayable video output when it involves videogames. But hey, quality isn't important right?

USB, even USB 2.0 simply doesn't provide enough bandwidth for using a computer for recording, or viewing, video games. Also keep in mind that it is very important to have a video card as onboard video just doesn't cut it when doing multimedia of this type. But hey, quality doesn't matter so I guess this is a moot point.

If quality doesn't matter I'm sure there is some cheap off-brand USB 1.1 standard composite device. You probably wouldn't get audio with it but hey that's what the Line-In is for on the audio card. If you don't have that, since quality doesn't matter, you could use the microphone input. It will be loud, annoying, and mono but hey stereo and crisp clean sound isn't important.

If any of this isn't true, that you do want quality to a certain extent then I would suggest Hauppauge (http://www.hauppauge.com/), ATI TV Wonder of some sort, or Pennacle. I've also seen Dazzle products though I have no opinion on those. If you are so set in that it cannot possibly cost more than $60 you might have to wait a while for one of these products to go on sale. Really, there is no such thing as a usable capture device that is 'cheap'. If under $60 is a must I would suggest just not even bothering until you see a product go on sale, if even considering it at all.
