Another review style thing! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

In my mind, there are 3 types of fighting games that work: Soul Calibur style, Smash Bros style and Marvel vs Capcom (Street Fighter) style. Other fighting games either emulate these styles, or stray and usually don't do so well (My opinion). This game is very Soul Calibur style.

First off, Naruto is the first series I've experienced watching first the subbed (Love!) and THEN the dub, and that wa my first experience of sub fanboyism. I absolutely HATE the voices in the game XD

And, since the Naruto fighting games are released by series (They're upto 4 in Japan), this game is very lacking in characters.

As far as graphics go, considering the original game came out almost 3 years ago (2 years 11 months), it looks excellent (Cartoon/cel style)

Ok, to actual playing! The game is very Soul Calibur style, only it's very simplified. It's half good, because you learn it fast, but also half bad, because then all the characters are so easy to pick up and be good at. It's fun, but it doesn't last nearly as long as Soul Calibur.

Story mode should not exist in this game. That's all I have to say http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

Secrets are very limited unfortunately (3 characters, character profiles and difficulty pretty much). I'll say Sharingan Kakashi and Kyuubi Naruto are probably some of the most fun characters to play however <3

I'm gonna recommend only a rent for this one. The next game comes out in October or November with more characters (Neji!!!), and I think that's the one that introduces 4 player battles (They do, right? I remember seeing movies. Maybe my imagination is tricking me).

So terrible compared to my Sonic Riders one XD

Only three characters, I heard the JP Naruto 1 of the gamecube has Rock Lee as one of the hidden characters that you could unlock.

As we know, Naruto 2 was definitely much better with a huge cast of characters making an appearance. I like the music in Naruto 2 better than Naruto 3. I haven't played 4, so I won't make an opinion of that game but a lot of people say it's really good.

---

Hmm, if I were to compare this game. It would be similar to 'Tales of Symphonia' (with the linearity except you could strafe left and right) & 'Super Smash Brothers'... one button dedicated to normal attack, one button dedicated to special attack.

I never did buy the JP Naruto 1 (because I wasn't a Naruto fan back then), but for a starting game I would say it's a good ground testing game. For those who know about Naruto JP games, the 2nd one is definitely much better.

But the 3rd game has Anko and Temari. ;_;

Dude, play more fighting games.

Marvel Vs. Capcom style, or as some call it, simply the "vs" games, does NOT compare in similarity to regular Street Fighter. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Thanks for the heads up that this is somewhat just like Inuyasha's fighting game, which means way too many people are going to buy it when its not even any good! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_mad.gif

It's not that the Naruto game is terrible, it's got it's fun, but loses appeal VERY quickly. So unless you can get it cheap, it's definately a rental.

They're the same I say! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif Minus no hyper combos and no super jumps, Street fighter seems the same as Marvel vs Capcom to me. Maybe a more general term would work? Like, Capcom fighters, but then, Capcom has a lot of varying fighters... it'll be hard to categorize http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

EDIT:

I bought this game, and the only redeeming factor in it is its multiplayer. It's the only reason I bought it anyway.

Thanks for the heads up PJ. It looks really fun but I can see it getting boring really fast and being really simple.

I think I'll wait for a friend to buy it and then borrow it.

A friend of mine heard diehard fans RAVING about this game on a message board a couple years back, so he imported it. 4 of us got together at his house and played it, and it was awesome.

Back then, the game was extremely fun and addicting. I'm not sure how it would be now.. but, even back then, I got tired of the game in a couple weeks after he let me borrow it.

I second that it by no means lives up to Guilty Gear, Soul Calibur or hundreds of Street Fighter style capcom games. Even if you're a diehard fan, you'll probably get tired of it before long. It's most definately worth a rental, though.

I've only played 2-4(Not 1). They are kinda fun, for about afew hours then it starts to get real old, real fast.

To me, the game seems to try to cash in on the name and milk it for all it's worth. In fact, one my brother's friend stayed over a month back and bought some naruto DS game made from the same company(Tomy?). It sucked, badly. I even played the past GBA ones at a friend's house afew days later, same crap :/.

The game COULD be good, but it'll need alot of work and from what I've seen ,the makers of this game don't give a care. If people keep buying it, they'll just pump out the same old stuff.

P.S: Maybe I didn't like it more since I never watched the subbed shows back in the day and got into the it.

Nice, I was contemplating on buying it but, I think I might rent it now.

Also I agree with what another poster said. The Vs series from capcom are totally not like the regular street fighter games.
