PSU will offer an OFFLINE RPG style gameplay that you can enjoy for roughly about 40 hours. and so the answer is no you dont have to connect to the internet

also after finishing the story mode u will be able to access the extra mode which can let you create and play a character for infinite time....

From IGN's preview article of PSU

PSU will ship with both single and online multiplayer.

So this must mean that you'll have the same RPG gameplay for PC versions. Since PSU is coming out on PC, PS2, and XBOX 360

Slight correction Feratique, you don't actually HAVE to beat the game to play Extra, just beating Story Mode (so I shall call it) areas allows you to play them in Extra Mode.

sorry for the knit picking

What about the news which said "your computer will have to be connected to the Internet at all times, even if you just want to play the offline story mode", like steam's setup for HL2.

Was that found to be false? I don't really know myself, I haven't heard anything more about it other than the original PSOworld article, oh and here's the article is anyone if wondering...

Unless Ryna verify that the article is right in saying that you need to be connected at all times. I still think that it is not necessasry to connect to the internet when playing offline mode.

Just found the topic it was discussed in, online connection for offline play will obviously won’t be required for the PS2 version, but it could very well be for the PC version in a bid to clamp down on Piracy.
