Adam, it's you and me against the world.

I thought I was the only one who thought the N64 generation was terrible http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif Probably only because my family had opted for the Dreamcast instead, but N64 had... 2 Zelda games, and the Pokemon Stadium games (And most people would argue about the goodness of those). That's about it

Video's old, but still pretty funny. I loved the NOW WE CAN RENT GAMES FROM BLOCKBUSTER! part.

StarFox 64, Mischief Makers, Doom64, and Blast Corps (MAYBE Perfect Dark and Conker's Bad Fur Day on the right day) were about the only games I really enjoyed for the ol N64. I bought mine the day StarFox came out and it didn't get a whole lot of use after that. I have a lot of games, but really don't care much for most of them.

Super Mario 64 just never clicked with me at all. I came to appreciate it a bit more years later, but never fully enjoyed it like most do. As for GoldenEye, I was already spoiled by FPSs that looked and played much better at the time. Haven't cared much for any of the 3D Zeldas either.

Ah well

I mean, barring the fact that any console is worth it solely for Ocarina of Time... what N64 were you naysayers playing?

Star Fox, Mario 64, Goldeneye, Banjo-Kazooie, Jet Force Gemini, Super Smash Bros...

I just started playing some N64 games again recently, and I'm blown away by how many good games there were.

I'm really shocked at the dismissal of some of these games.

Yet, on topic, I should mention that the kid in that video is actually one of the writers for 4ColorRebellion, I believe.

I cant believe you would say that. Not only is Jet Force: Gemini (NOTE THE COLIN) my favorite game (and gets my vote for best game ever,) it also has flawless controls that could not be rightly duplicated with the Wii remote.

Well, yes. But the collecting didn't really interfere with the game until the last chapter.

And, uh, guys... the official title listed on every site I'm going to is Jet Force Gemini, without the colon. I mean, technically they are the Gemini chapter of the Jet Force, but regardless, the title is without the separation.

Of course, JFG had some limitations when it came to the controls. Obviously they would have loved to have a dual-analog setup, but the controls definitely worked out excellently with the setup they used. Inginuity won out against limiations.

That's the problem. It didn't HAVE to interfere with the game, but it did. It's the cheapest way to extend playtime, and was like hitting a brick wall for me.

The controls were the best that could be done on a N64 controller. This game SCREAMS for the Wiimote. They're absolutely perfect for each other.

Aim with Wiimote, move with the Nunchaku attachment.

Right, the point with my original statement that the games for the N64 sucked ass still stays. There were a few good games, but when it really seemed the only thing being released for the system was racing game after racing game after racing game, it only helped to lose its appeal.

Great games for that system were very few. Mario 64 was great, changed gaming as we know it. The Zelda games for it were great. Starfox 64 is still probably the best Starfox game. Besides that, I couldn't find any games I liked for it. So few interesting games over so many years of being marketed makes for a crappy system. It killed my love of gaming for years.

Um, actually, I'd have to say that the majority of N64 games were NOT racing. If anything, the relevant argument would be for adventure platforming games. (Actually, according to IGN, it looks like there were more action games than anything, but I'm a little cautious of some of those genre definitions.)

There seemed to be a lot of racers early on in the console's lifespan (Cruisin' series, Lambourghini, Top Gear), but certainly not towards the end. If anything, more people were playing the Playstation for its racers, what with Ridge Racer, Gran Turismo, Destruction Derby, Driver, etc.

I mean, jeez... have you ever even sat down and played through Banjo-Kazooie? Or Paper Mario? What about (and I know these are racers, but still) 1080 Snowboarding or F-Zero X? Star Wars Rogue Squadron? Frame-rates aside, Perfect Dark had so much content packed into it, one couldn't help but find something enjoyable in it.

Again, I'm surprised at the disregard for some of the best games of the generation.

Indeed.

I'd bring up that project EGM did to show classic games to some young kids and how they reacted to them being "boring and old", but that would get people really upset!

I don't understand the mentality of butting in to say something sucks however, just to voice an opinion.

Are they trying to convince you to change your opinion? Just put you down for what you like?

Do these people care soo much about what other people buy and play?

What's the motivation for all this?
Justifying how their games are better?

People have differences of opinion and preferences, nothing new.

And the hype machine makes more money for the industry?

And you hide under your little umbrella of fanboy (http://www.pointlesswasteoftime.com/games/fanboy.jpg) blindness. Don't try to say that's not what it is, because it's blatantly obvious with how you've handled this thread and anyone with a differing opinion. Oh deary me, there's that word again. I wonder why it keeps coming up? BECAUSE IT'S RELEVANT TO THE TOPIC! Don't like that people have opinions that just may differ from your own? Your modem has a cord in the back you can pull out and make all the wrong in the world go away.

I really wanna know how any game can be "good regardless." How the hell did this come about? Seems most gamers I know play games based on their own personal tastes and not based on some group of peoples' idea of "good." Where's the committee that sits around all day determining what games are "good regardless?" Can I write to them? Cause I think we need to have a little chat about Half-Life 2 :

Bottom line: drop the fanboy shit.

Needs more Blast Corps

Quoted for complete truth. But since game companies have this weird tendency to rarely do anything that makes sense, I wouldn't hold my breath. Plus I don't think it sold that well :/

I thought that was the Jaguar? What with no textures and pseudo-64-bit graphics and all of, what, two sales?

The Nintendo 64 was my introduction into console gaming. If it had been as bad as many claim it to be I would likely not be talking here now. Instead probably some computergame message board.

Also, Hydro Thunder for the Nintendo 64 was, based from my experiences, the best version of the game. Eh, so it's a racing game so was Mario Kart 64 and they were both awesome games.

I won't argue about fanboyism, but you're certainly overstepping your boundaries with some wonderful assumptions on your part. Go take a seat, calm down, and then maybe we can have a nice conversation. I guarantee you'll enjoy yourself here much more after that.

Anywho:

I guess you could refer to the Jaguar as the failure of the 32-bit era, but I mean... most people don't even think of it as being in the same realm as the other systems.

For most people it would be the Saturn, y'know?

I dunno.

Also, to jump back a bit, I actually couldn't stand Donkey Kong 64. The Donkey Kong Country games were so great, and then DK64 just didn't do it for me. I think it was probably the fact that you had to go through each level with five different characters to collect 100+ different objects with each of them. Rare can be a little collecting crazy, but that was probably the all-time low for them. Even Star Fox Adventures had less to collect, and that's the game that's known for the ridiculous number of things he can pick up.

Also, not to harp on that one specific game so much, but it felt way too similar to Banjo-Kazooie for me. I'm pretty sure they ran on the same engine anyway. I just really wish the game had been more streamlined and a bit more linear so that it could be similar to DKC in some ways.

$80 is a huge chunk of change to be hearing CCCCCCOOMBO BREAKKKER NONSTOP. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

And yet they're back, in next gen form.

The justification for it in one EGM article of "consumers were willing to buy limited editions of Madden/Mortal Kombat/Halo 2/etc. and pay such a price"

is bullcrap.

I didn't buy any of those games, and those that did just got some tack on special features as in those contained in movie DVD releases.

And the X360 DVD game discs are not double the cerrent media capacity or anything, right?

But I guess its been a while since games were $60 so it might be overdue, and it probably does cost more to produce games, even though its noted devlopers don't take much loss per disc even at Greatest Hits prices.
