Beasts: What kind of animal?

What kind of animal do you think beasts are based off of, It seems like cats, but do they get tails or not.

based off dogs and cats, in humanoid form, I doubt its really a specific animal.

And come to think of it... beasts look like bunny/lion hybrids..I say bunny because of the long ears on the male beast forms. <.< >.>

Beasts are based off of Native Motavians. That design prompted the creation of Beasts. In the past, creatures have emulated cat forms like Musk Cats & Numen/Newmen. The tradition continues on in yet another form, Beast. They're not traditional looking cats, but, more like a blend. Think of Thundercats.

He meant the idea for a beast-like character came from Motavians, not necessarily the look. I believe Sonic Team actually mentioned that before, as well.

Space Elves = Newmans.

They seem to be primarily kitties, though playing with the editors, you could easily make them puppies. The female Beasts in particular have one hairstyle that screams doggy, especially if you combine it with the right ears. Plus they've got dog eyes in addition to the cat eyes. Plus they have some other eyes that are completely terrifying, but that's different...
