Something to tide you over till PSU

I've been watching the development of Space Cowboy Online (Yes stupid name, just call it SCO) for a while now, and it has finally been released. It's an MMORPG where you are almost alweays in the air, at control of your own fighter in a war. You only get out of your fighter to walk around cities and such. I'm mentioning it here because, 1. I've played it, and so far it seems great, and 2. You actually have to do the fighting, instead of the "double-click and go fix yourself a sandwhich" that I know so many of you guys hate so much. The servers only went live for the first time (after some delays) yesterday morning, so it's brand new, and obviously to early to judge, but so far it looks great. Too bad the main site is terribly sluggish, but the lag in game isn't as bad as the site might imply. Best yet, it's completely free, no monthly fee or anything. There will be a cash shop for premium items, but even that isn't in there yet. The only downside is, if any of you are familiar with FlyFF, it's the same people handling the servers. So don't expect the greatest GM and server-side service.

The battle system is weird. You'd think that even though a monster would be a higher level than you, and you lock your missiles on a damn enemy that it would make a hit.
No, it misses, -_-.

They could keep the 'realism' of actually hitting your target consistently, but factor in if you're high enough level to even survive the encounter. =

My judgment: I like it. Fun gameplay (besides the whole MISS thing) Dueling others is fun (heh, I'm already 5:1 )

But remember, in PSO, you slice the enemy with a Sword, yet it misses!

(Not to mention one missle exploding will take the other with it and machine gun bullets easily miss ex: see Rainbow 6: 3 )

Was playing this for a bit. It's a neat idea, however i'm not sure i'm too fond of it to be honest.

I'd rather play PSO [offline].

Actually, I've been playing. Got one gear to lvl 5 and an air to air gear to lvl 10. It's actually rather fun once you get the controls down and start lvl'ing your character.

Considering it's a free game, it's actually alot of fun now that I've spent some time into it. The missing with my standard weapon(currently using vulcans) can be a pain, but they hit often enough that I can finish off an enemy in decent time.

After burning a full day on the game I got a 12 gear on the "J" server and a 10 gear on the "H" server

That's what keeps popping up everytime I try and open this thing. Anyone wanna take a stab at it?

My brother got that also. At first I assumed it was because of his firewall but eventually (after lots of computer diving) I wasn't able to come up with a specific diagnostic.

For starter though, I reccommend checking your firewall. Make sure it is allowing the game AND the startup procedure through.

Well, it seems to work for some people and not for others. It's run like a dream for me. It lagged some on Joymus, and crashed once due to lag, but this was only on the first day when it debuted, and then I switched to Hovernmus, because I heard fewer people were there. Since then I've had virtually no lag, only been disconnected once, and also crashed once. Not bad really. By contrast though, my brother, who lives in the same house with the same conncection, but different computer, can't even log in for more than a few seconds without crashing. So far though, they've updated the game with minor fixes almost everyday, here's hoping the problems are fixed soon.

ANI outnumbers BCI on both severs. People are just suckers for idealism I guess. To be honest I was going to join ANI to until I heard how they outnumbered BCI both in the Beta, and now. So I joined BCI, and am now part of a Brigade, Outer Heaven. ...who really cares? It really depends on those involved with how well it's all done. Who's to say you're not going up against shitty PVP'ers or people who aren't getting enough support as your side? I see alot of calls to arms on my side, but you know, I don't give a shit to go help. So maybe your side is just more in-tune to PVP'ing, go your team?

Ok, I was having tons of fun with this game at first. It's been a LONG time since I played any sort of dog fight type game, and it was really refreshing to play one again. And, I definitely gotta say, It's very original how they combined an aerial dogfighter with an RPG... but... I think I'd rather play a regular dog fight game.... Don't get me wrong though, It is a good game. =x

All that aside, I gotta say thank you for enlightening us on this game. I had ALOT of fun with it. =)
