Actually they are the rare counterpart to a green box. If they weren't photon drops they would really be an antidote or something else just as useless.

No one ever complains about all the green boxes that drop in a game. No one even says "Damn all those telepipes I found today. Damn you to hell monomates." For some reason everyone complains about photon drops. Like the game is deciding, photon drop or a 1/28807 drop. Come on. It's not an either or situation between them.

it's the fact that it's a red box so people see it get excited run over to it and see it's a PD. Of course what you szy is true but when people see a red box they hope for the best in this case a rare item.

Dreamcast versions had Special Weapons but they were the same color as other weapon boxes, orange, until you hovered over them.

Gamecube brought in this new trickster Photon Drop system vs rare item drop.

Kind of cruel but hey, we're living it everytime we boot up the game.
