Okay, I need a beginners course on various emoticons...What are some common ones and what emotions do they represent?

Also, how does one go about inserting smilies into posts...I've always wondered that?

That list is what's available on PSOW and able to insert into any post like so:

Other forums will have other available smileys.

if you have a smiley that isnt in psow's collection, you can host it yourself (on photobucket, for example) and insert it as image. i wouldnt suggest just crosslinking / stealing another host's bandwidth without their permission.

Well that's nice and all, but if he looks up more on that page, there is an explaination of the BBcode, which you need to know in order to use PSOW's smilies. That and a bunch of other stuff, like the IMG tags...

I was kinda hinting towards that. :/

was hosted from my photobucket. I used the [IMG] to display the image as an image and not a link. You can do the same thing with a photobucket. Just sign up.

And yeah if you sign up to Photobucket then you can host images as emoticons that PSOW doesnt have.
