lol I have Windows Vista Beta 2 and a Ati Radeon X1600 Pro, and when I start PSO PC after playing movie.exe it loads PSO.exe and crashes. On PSO BB I go to Options and it says my video card is, "RDPDD Chained DD", and the resolution box is blank. I set both their compatibility to Windows XP SP2, and Windows 98 on PSO PC, and it doesn't work. I want to get this to work without downgrading back to Windows XP. Any Help? Thanks

Specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ @ 2.01 GHz
ATI Radeon X1600 512 MB
1 GB PC3200 RAM
Asus K8N-E Deluxe
Windows Vista Beta 2 Build 5384

The post Beta 2 build (5456) is WAYYYYYYYY better than Beta 2. Beta 2 (although it runs well) is totally bogged down with debugging apps running in the background that can't be turned off. The 5456 build runs almost as fast as XP and is all around better. In fact it has been argued that this is the build that SHOULD have been the Beta 2 release.

Anyway, if you haven't already updated your drivers, do so. The default drivers it loads suck. When updating the video drivers DO NOT uninstall the default Vista drivers. If you do, you will get an error saying that Windows was unable to find the device for the drivers you want to install.

Build 5384 was a good start but build 5456 kicks it's ass left and right.

lol I guess I forgot to say that I have the ATI Vista Drivers. I'm downloading 5456, I heard my Beta 2 CD key will work so I'll give it a try, thanks!

Why not just partition off some space and run a duel boot? All my games have run beautifully in both build 5384 and especially build 5456 with no issues at all. I don't play PSOBB though so that makes it difficult to troubleshoot.

When it crashes does it give an error? Does it kick you back to the desktop? Does it just freeze?

well, on PSO PC it runs movie.exe fine, but when it goes to PSO.exe it just stops responding and it gives me that "Windows is finding a solution message"

LOL. Yeah, like Windows is gonna find that solution for you http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Did you try running the game without using Compatibility mode? Also is this the 32bit or 64bit version? I seem to have alot more issues with the 64bit version.

I'd say finish downloading 5456, do a clean install and then try it. I believe Corey said he was able to run PSOBB on Vista and I think he only had some sound issues. I believe he was running 5384 also.

And yes, your Beta 2 key will work with 5456 http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Forgot to say (and I know it's obvius) but update the default Vista drivers once you do the fresh install to ATI's latest catalyst.

Do the fresh install once it's done downloading and go for it. If it doesn't work, partition off some harrdrive space and either install the 32bit version of Vista or install XP and run a dual boot. Windows XP 64bit version has some heavy compatibility issues with certain 32bit programs and I'm sure Vista 64bit is in the same boat.

Were you able to run PSOBB in Windows XP 64bit previously?

That sucks http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Turn Catalyst AI to Normal (if you have it on advanced.) I have seen more and more issues with games not running well on the (work in progress) DX10. And it doesn't appear to just be ATI that has the issues.

PSO BB if I try to open it without changing the resolution box, just closes ALL my programs that are open and gives me an error, I don't remember what it says exactly

Well, I'm back on Windows XP so this topic should be closed, or locked.
