View Full Version : Do you have or want tattoos?

This is my first topic post; let's hope I did it right...

Anyway, does anyone here have or want to have tattoos? I personally love tattoo art, and I can't get enough of them. I'm hoping I'm not alone here, and I'm out to prove nerds don't have to actually LOOK like nerds (no offense to anyone)!

So if you've got some ink, post some pics and show them off, or at least describe them! If you don't have any but want some, tell us what you'd like to get needled into your skin!

Here is a pic of part of mine:

I don't care if you've just got a little tribal or a butterfly or something, I want to know about it!

I just had a latin saying tattooed into my upper back/shoulder area. After the redness and swelling goes away, I'll post it for you.

I'm also going to get USMC on my chest, but I'm waiting on that one.

OMGadz. I pulled up a page, and the FIRST thing on it, is the only tattoo I'd ever consider.

If you don't get an 8 Ball (http://www.tattoodles.com/?source=tattoos.com), it's in this website. That's literally how I'd have wanted it.

On the backside of one of my hands, can't decide which though...

I am the one that says that if you want something you should get it, but also i am the one that says, you dont have to do anything to prove to others but to yourself.

If i look like a badass or i look like a nerd and i am happy about it, i wont really care about what others thinks about it, i just found some others that like who i am without to change myself.

If your tatoo its because YOU really really wanted, and also consider that its going to be something that fits your personality, then i am going to respect you. If its something that came out to prove to the others for whatever reason its like get a cigarrete to prove to the others that you not are whatever they think about it, then i am going to tell you #$^%# off your Mother@&*$er you are the dumbest person alive

and thats just my 2 cents

I got one more year till I get one but theres a good chance I'll get one before my birthday. They just became legal where I live at so everyone is getting one but I have mines already planned out.(I've been planning these tatoos since I was 8 )

-I'm gonna get Infinity in Japanese on my neck(I've got a lot of confirmations on the exact kanji)

-A symbol I made up on the right side of my chest.(I call it the Infinite Heart)

-Infinity in enlish wrapped on my right ankle

-the african flag on my left leg

-the symbol of infinity somewhere on my back. Probably at the top, under the neck.

I'm also debating if I should get a design on my arm.

But Yeah...you can tell what the theme is..
---------------------
But I have a question. For the designs on your arm, how much did it cost?

Despite what I wrote about "proving that nerds don't have to look like nerds," most of my tattoos have personal meaning and significance. They are there to remind me of where I've been and what I've done, so I would never go back (so far its worked). For example, all of the faces represent emotions, and the clock, barbed wire, spider web, bars, etc.... well, you get the idea.

I only said that because when people find out I love playing video games, RPGs, watching anime and other cliched "nerd" activities, they seem very surprised (my girlfriend sure was just after we started dating!!!), like I should be beating up nerds instead or some stupid shit like that. I did not mean to imply the only reason I got the things was to look like a badass; perhaps I should have worded thing differently. I created this topic because I have a genuine interest in tattoo art and while I intended there to be some showing off, I guess it's kind of the point.

BTW that's a sweet 8-ball pattern zwandude. I'd suggest getting it on whatever hand you don't write with, but I guess it really doesn't matter too much.

Infinity is always a cool theme. I don't know if you noticed but I have the inifinity symbol (it doesn't really have a name; I've heard it called the lemniscate but apparently that's actually incorrect) below the back of my neck above the pentagram. The back of the neck is a perfect place for it, however, and I wish I got it there instead of those old english letters. I'd like to get some Kanji or Hanzi as well one day; don't know what I'd have it say, though.

As for the cost of my half-sleeves... ummm... I actually didn't pay any real money for them, they just cost me three years of my life. I've been told the street cost would be maybe a few thousand dollars, however. If you want extensive work done, it helps to go and compare pricing systems, since at least in AZ (and I believe elsewhere) there's no standard. People charge basically whatever they want. Some tattoo artists will be willing to work with you on the price, and if you get lucky you might find one that's really cool and can give you a great deal (I found this Mexican guy who does some awesome work that's willing to finish my snake and do my chest plate for about 1/3 normal cost).

Tattoos huh.
Nope. Never wanted them. I don't feel like paying money to get myself hurt. :<
Also, being the fickle person that I am. What is cool today might become uncool tomorrow and I might regret what I picked and be stuck with it forever.

That being said, pattern tattoo are so much cooler than words.

Yeah I was thinking of getting a couple of tatoos.

-Angel Wings on my back, one black, one white.

-Maybe some sorta pattern between the wings, I haven't decided but I do want something between them.

-The word Harmony or something around those lines on my left forearm.

There were some others I was thinking of getting too, but I just can't rememeber 'em right now.

I have "always remember" in Japanese tatooed down my right arm - to remind me I came through something I was proud to have come through and became a better man for it. Some days it gives me that little boost by reminding me that I'm stronger than I used to be - other days it makes me sad to remember - but I never want to forget the past any more and confronting it daily has helped me out... wow that was heavy!

To lighten things up I want to get a dragon or something that snakes around my body (maybe my back and arm) - still debating that though!

Personally i would get small angel wings on my back as well, I have a friend that has them, pretty amazing. Other than that if the ink went away i would get a bar code under my left eye..

I don't have any but I'm contiplating on putting "Lucky 13" somewhere on my body. This would signify all the shit that went bad in my life. I wanted that ever since I heard Social Distortion's "Bad Luck" where he said the one line "13 is my luck number". Any tattoo I put on my body has to have a significant meaning.

That's when I'd get 'em removed. Actually, unless there are significant medical advancements in the field of tattoo removal, this may be difficult with the amount of work I have. Besides, by the time my skin starts to sag (around 50+ years old, as long as I keep fit which I intend to do), I probably won't care. I don't plan on living all that long anyway (old age sucks from what my gramps tells me).

Dizzydi, Kasari: I like the angel wing idea. I drew a pattern (yes, I can draw some kickass patterns. I even designed some of my own, but they're hard to see in my crappy pics) of a set of wings: one was a demon wing, the other that of an angel. It was sort of an alternate representation of the yin-yang, or the balance of darkness and light.

I guess I'm gonna have to ask around for the prices on getting designs.

But I know a person that got 2 pitbulls fighting on his back for $2000 so I'm guessing a basic design on the arms may be in the thousands to three thousands.
-----------------------
I'm also thinking of getting the infinity symbol on my face(adjacent to my right eye) that or a star looking asterick mark. But I'm iffy on tatoos on the face.(It may prevent me from getting hired at certain jobs)

isahn80
Jul 7, 2006, 03:39 PM
Whatever you do, DO NOT get any on your face or the sides of your neck. That's the most visible area of your body, as it's where people will usually look at you. The only people I've ever met that actually had tattoos like that that also had good jobs were the tattoo artists themselves!

Like I said, ask around and try to find a good deal. Be careful about anyone who promises great work for super cheap, though. Actually, this is a good rule of thumb for ANYONE wanting to get a tattoo, but regardless of where you go and whate you pay, MAKE SURE to check out the artist's previous work first. The last thing you want is a piece of shit tattoo from an amateur.

Any tattoo that's over $400 will probably take more than one session, and it's common for really large and expensive tattoos to be paid in installments, so you don't need to have several thousand dollars at once. Again, artists are sometimes willing to negotiate.

I don't have a digicam at the moment, but I do have a small tattoo on my right upper arm. It's a Libra symbol (very similar to the one in isahn80's first post on his chest) but the right side of the top line curves around and weaves itself through the bottom line. It's shaded and colored to make it look like stone with little cracks here and there.

Another one I've been planning for ages (though my fiance isn't too keen on me getting any more...) is I always wanted the statue of Lady Justice off Metallica's ...And Justice For All album . I didn't want "Metallica" written anywhere, but I just wanted the blindfolded statue with the scales, as Libra is the scales http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif And I do like Metallica.

The other thing I've thought about, though I haven't got a real design in mind yet is somewhere I'd like to get a little symbol, like a sword or something, and have my son's name and birthdate on it.

I personally don't have any tattoo's and I don't plan on getting any anytime soon. However, I have always been facinated by the idea of getting a tattoo and I would be lieing if I said that the thought didn't often cross my mind.

There was once a time when I wanted to get a tattoo of a bar-code on the back of my neck. The inspiration for this idea came from the movie 12 Monkies where Bruce Willis' character had a tattoo of a bar-code. Then the Dark Angel T.V. series came out and all of a sudden the bar-code thing didn't seem all the smart or unique.

I also went through a phase where I wanted to get a 666 tattoo ( no lectures please ) on my right shoulder and a 777 tattoo on my left shoulder. That phase also passed.

As of recently I have become obsessed with Scar's ( from Full Metal Alchemist ) Tattoo. There is a part of me that would really love to get this tattoo but it's not somthing that a real life person should ever get because it is too big and im-parctical.

Maybe if the temtation becomes too great I may get a much smaller version of the transmutation circle on Scar's arm on my shoulder.

That actually looks pretty tight. If you do get this on your neck, I'd recommend getting it on the back of your neck. Easier to cover up with a collared shirt too, if need be.

By the way, those contacts are wicked. The good thing with those is that you can always pop 'em out if you need to interview for a job or something.

Why is the interpretation of that pattern going to cost so much? Is he just doing the gargoyle and the wings/tail or is he going to do the background, too? I could see it if he does the background, but otherwise I don't see it. I like the pic though, it would definately make a good tat.

I really don't get why people would want a japanese saying/phrase tattoo?

In Japan tattoos are pretty taboo due to their association with the yakuza.

Getting a tattoo in a language you don't speak is also kind of cheesy (the exception to this being latin).

That being said.

Infinity: An Chinese article.
http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%97%A0%E9%99%90

Same article in the Japanese version.
http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E7%84%A1%E9%99%90

Characters are the same in Japanese/Chinese... Chinese apparently can also say "Wu qiong" which is essentially the same as "wu xian" i.e. without end [I don't know if you can say that in Japanese]. The difference between Fanti zi/Jianti zi (simplified/traditional: Japanese in this case is the same as the traditional characters)

If I were going to get a tattoo of the phrase infinity in chinese I would most likely go with a 4 character idiomatic phrase (chengyu) to be snobbish... the one that would best fit this would be "Wu Qiong Wu Jin" (Jin also meaning an end of sorts, so Wu Jin = without end)
http://union.itlearner.com/chengyu/show.asp?id=10159

4 Characters phrases are particularly elegant, so I would suggest that instead of the simply Wu Qiong or Wu Xian...
This phrase also gets a bonus for being of form ABAC (which I think is also cool), plus is a nice contrast to this other chengyu "Shan Qiong Shui Jin" i.e. where the mountains and the river end (stuck at a dead end).

http://www.emb.gov.hk/FileManager/TC/Content_4417/42kowloontruelight.pdf

The 4 large characters in blue are the Traditional Character form of this phrase...

Yes, the design is something I found and altered to fit my own feindish needs.

The first shop I went to estimated around a grand, the background included, what an insult.
I would have had my buddy do it, since he did my previous tattoo, however, hes in rehab at the momment.
According to the guy im at now, its going to be
around 500$, I was hoping for around 350, but ill settle.

You can;t see it, but there's a band of thorns on that wrist. I had just gone in there to get that touched up, and asked the owner of the shop, Wayne, when he thought he could add some too it.

So, that was at 9 that night. We both left at 1:30 in the morning.

I went in to get a touchup and left with a half sleeve =D

Flames start at the band.

No camera right now, but I also have tribal wings on my back.

And piercings? Industrial, septum, prince albert, 3 jacob's ladders, a double venom, both my lobes, 4 napes.

And I've got three flesh staples on my right upper arm. I'm thinking of getting a tattoo of a wound to incorparate into those. They actually have some neat flash of some thin open wounds, with the nopening revealing like cybernetic parts or whatever, and they are just smaller than the flesh staples.

Damn, that's a lot of fucking piercings... I used to have my nose pierced but I let it close up because it looked kind of dumb.

I remember this one guy showed me a Prince Albert he'd done himself (he "surprised" me; I had no choice in the matter). He had a small padlock through the damn thing...

Anyway, I like the flames on your arm; the shading is very well done. I hate it when I see flames that are just blotches of red and orange.

I also like the tattoo-under-the-flesh-staple idea. I've seen all kinds of cool shit like musculature, bone, cell structure and cybernetics like you mentioned. I'm personally partial to the cell structure but I have yet to see a cybernetic open wound tat that didn't kick ass.

I just flip my septum up.

Personally, I don't care for the looks of it either. But I have it done, so I kept it. It's not hard to slip the barbell up, or even wear a retainer.

and to YOU!

I'm not crazy...

I'm....

Needy.

The 4 large characters in blue are the Traditional Character form of this phrase...

I know I'm late replying but thanks for the articles. I don't know any other language except English and some spanish. I just like Kanji for its unique designs.
