Hm, if you like The Fray, you might like some Coldplay songs. Definatley look into Cheap Trick and Fastball. Those were some amazing bands. Also, maybe look at Semisonic and the Verve/Verve Pipe.

Hah, some good 90's nostalgia there.

teasing, toying, turning, chatting, charming,
hissing, playing the crowd.
Play that song again.
Another couple klonopin.

Oh such grace
Oh such beauty
And lipstick and callous and fishnets and malice.
Oh darlin'
You're a million ways to be cruel."

yeah, muse are amazing, I'm such a muse fanboy :/

I also love Dream Theater although right now I'm really into Opeth. They're a bit heavy at times and it takes a while to get used to the death vocals but it's seriously emotional and complex music at times. They do some amazing acoustic stuff.

Well if he's looking for stuff more along the lines of rock/alternative/pop, I really wouldn't suggest Dream Theater. They're amazing, yes, but prog metal doesn't really fit what he's looking for.

Haha Allos, you have a point. Although the only band out of his original I've heard is Jet. And I thought they sucked :/ But Muse ftw. you should like them.

Hm, if you like The Fray, you might like some Coldplay songs.

And if you like Coldplay you may as well just upgrade to Radiohead. >:D

As always, no matter what, I'm going to recommend Pink Floyd.

I second the recommendation of Radiohead.

Pink Floyd, you should start off with obviously the most popular album, Dark Side of the Moon.

Radiohead-Either The Bends, Kid A, or OK Computer. All of them are good.

I would second Jhonny Cash... expecially his rendition of NIN's "Hurt" and U2's "ONE". Though he has a ton of great songs if you give it a chance.

If you like banjos at all, check out Yonder Mountain String Band (Mother's Only Son)... and Keller Williams is always a treat if you like Jam music. Though he does tend to get rather silly at times. He's got a great loop of Loser (Greatful Dead) into Loser (Beck) and back into Loser (GD) again.

Ooh.. and Sam Bush and Michael Franti w/ Spearhead.

Beatsteaks, especially their single Hand in Hand. The Strokes and Sublime kick ass as well. Reptillia <3

Hmmmm. Weird thread.

I'm surprised Abdur hasn't mentioned Vast yet, they're pretty cool.

I'm surprised Wazzy didn't say anythign about Bloc Party, which he knows he loooooves to death. >_>;

Ehm.... My list?
Keane is more piano-rock ish, closer to the Fray than anything. I would suggest Something Corporate (Jack's Mannequin is the lead's side project) but it's a bit emo for most peoples' tastes. Konstantine was epic though. >_>;
Hmmmm.
Okay, this isn't working, screw that, I'll list, no more descriptive blurb shit.
I'm just scrolling my library for whatever people tend to like. Oh, Ya. beware of obscurity.

Keane, Carpark North, Bloc Party, Secret Machines, Mew, Mates of State, The Wallflowers, The Rakes, Mae, Bright Eyes, Babyshambles, The Libertines, Snow Patrol, Talking Heads, Animal Collective, YeahYeahYeahs, White Stripes, Arcade Fire, Alkaline Trio, Beck, Neutral Milk Hotel, Stereophonics, Doves, Perishers, Lostprophets, The Books, The Shins, Cold War Kids, The Auteurs, Amusement Parks on Fire, Mest, Tears for Fears, Serena Maneesh.

I'd go on, but meh, I'm not compiling my whole library in this post. >p
Most of the aforementioned stuff is lyrical, melodic, or just plain alt. rock.
