I actually had to stop watching it after the first bloody scene...

Then again, I was in 8th grade when I first saw it and wasn't used to all the blood in cartoons =/

Akira is a walk in the park compared to some of the 'creative works' that pour out of Japan. Just rest assured that Akira was simply another catalyst in that reaction.

Akira was special, I mean I didn't eat for the rest of the week. At least things like elfen lied does it in a gorey but not disturbing way. elfen lied :3

You ever seen Elfen Lied? The first half of episode one is basically just a naked woman walking through a lab and killing a buncha folks. WITH FUCKIN PENS AND SHIT!

Not exactly. Although she does decapitate some sexy lady, and then uses the headless body as a shield against a volley of bullets.
