Taken from my Journal on Deviant-Art

So it was announced last week that my boss was quitting being...er...our boss! It seems like a lot of people are happy about it, because they had a lot of complaints between employees about her and her methods [although i never really had a problem with her o.O]. Anyways, now that the position will be open as of next week, she was talking to me and told me that if i wanted it, i should put in a resume for it.

Now if you don't know what i do for a living, i work in a store called "Real Canadian Superstore" and i work in the Electronics department [you know, selling video games, and tv's and cameras and stuff.] Usually, it would go to most senior, being Cole/Roseann/Mel, but none of them want it. I've only been there for two years [this is my third, but just barely into my third year.] However, the boss of the Photolab [which is also part of our department] was thinking about taking over as supervisor in my department, and someone from the photolab becoming the new supervisor up there.

Anyways, I was thinking about the good and bad things.

Good:
-Higher Pay
-More hours
-I get to boss people around http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
-I don't have to wear the ugly grey shirts
-I'm the boss!
-It would look awesome on future resumes!
-Uhm..lessee...I dunno! I'll need to think of more!

Bad:
-I'm younger than most of the employees [I'm 18, some of the others are over 25!]
-I doubt the younger ones would listen to me because i used to be a "lackey", as we call it http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
-The computers supervisors use are ancient and they lock up on me when i'm trying to order labels!
-I'd have to deal with returns
-PAPERWORK!
-What if i have to fire someone? Yikes!
-Hiring: How would i know what qualifies!
-PAPERWORK!!!!

Uh...so yeah...i mean, i love what i do, and being the boss would be cool! WHAT SHOULD I DO????

[I may update this later http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif ]

Weeellll??

why not?

If there is a chance for advancement, snag the opportunity while it's there.

Take the position. Trust me when I tell you that it will help you out immensly. You are right when you say that it will look good in a resume, and the raise is a nice perk. About firing people, all I can say is that 99.9% of people that are fired know it's coming. They know when they missed 4 days in 1 week, or when they constantly make mistakes. The only firings that may come unexpected are from layoffs, but there is little that can be done about that.

Oh, Tingle is right. At your age there is no way they expect you to have management experience. They will most likely send you to a series of seminars or something. Good luck! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Yea I would take it that's a great oppurtunity! Paperwork of course sucks but you're going to have to face it eventually and it would look great on a resume.

Gotta learn somewhere and sometime, but to be honest, you need to 'step up' to the position, don't take it on if you're not going to actually try and excel at everything thats expected of you.

Well...all I ever hear my boss talk about is Paperwork...and she's rarely downstairs with us..

Oh well, i'm building a new resume right now. I'll probably post some of the contents of it for you guys to judge before i print it off. You all are always so helpful! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
