Basically just RAM and a new Video Card (AGP since I have a fricken Intel D875PBZ motherboard http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif )...

Anyways, I was also looking into getting a new case for my current computer. So far, my current case is... well... let's just say it looks more bland than a desktop case from Dell http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Anyways, I was planning to shift my current contents into a new case (which looks much sexier).

Therefore, just out of curiosity, has anyone else done this before? Were there any problems you encountered while re-installing the hardware into the new case?

Also, before I forget, I was considering upgrading my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro @ 128MB to an ATI X1300 Pro @ 256MB (Even I was surprised to find an AGP version of this). Would I have to completely get rid of the old drivers manually?

Thanks in advance

Question: how old is your current computer?

Almost two years old http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

The thing is I don't have the money to go build another one, so I want to try to make the most out of this one.

I've reinstalled hardware into new cases more times than I could possibly count lol. A few things to keep in mind are:
1. Form Factor of the case (making sure the motherboard can be attached to the case.)
2. Make sure your Power Supply will also fit into the new case. It would help to know what Brand and Model of PC you have. If it is a Dell, then it's possible it may not fit and with many Dell motherboards the pinset of the power connector is proprietary, meaning you can't just pop in an ATX PSU without an adapter.
3. If you need to remove the heatsink or heatsink/fan, make sure you have some thermal compound to spread out over the CPU when you reattach them. Also make sure you wipe off the old thermal compound with rubbing alcohol on both the CPU and the HS/Fan before doing that.
4. You will need to remove the I/O plate on your original PC and use it in the new PC. Just popout the I/O faceplate on the new pc and insert the old one (otherwise your ports won't line up properly so you can access them.)
5. To help ensure airflow, neatly route the cables as best you can so that you don't have a big clutter of cords all over the place. Zipties work great for that.

Generally it is recommended to remove the old drivers and there is an excellent program (and it's free) that will completely remove everything for you so that you have a clean slate to work from. DriverCleaner (http://www.drivercleaner.net/). Get the Pro version. Then make sure you get the latest Catalyst drivers from ATI. (http://www.ati.com/)

Download the setup drivers first from ATI without installing, unistall the drivers install the new card, and when it ask for the drivers, just run the setup that you just downloaded.
