View Full Version : Has Anyone Else Noticed This?

OK, I've had this notion for a while, but I could never really verify it. I've noticed that in the case of Hildebears, Hildeblues, and Hildelts, each name consists of Hilde- plus an ending that includes two consonants. Furthermore, those two consonants represent (or a coincidence) that enemy's element.

Hildebear -> br -> burning
Hildeblue -> bl -> blizzard
Hildelt -> lt -> lightning

However, it could be that I'm just seeing what I want to see, that it's just a coincidence. What do you think?

Prob just coincidence, but you know what games from Japan are like, each name or place has a meaning, or is connected to something, or refers to something, or what not. I don't think 'bout things like that, I just think 'enemy, brain in kill mode, damn no rare mode, rinse and repeat'.

Mere coincidence. You're just pulling letters out of each of the monsters name to make something new. It's just a coincidence.

Okay! Explain Hildetorr.

That I can't do. However, they look somewhat different from the other three.

Hildetorr: Hildetortoise? Maybe it's due to the armor plating...

i dont think it is a quincidence actually. i never noticed b4 but i think they did get the name along them lines. and about the hildetor i do think they actually took it from the tortoise thing aswell.

after all every enemy in the game is a game version of an animal. ull notice em for example the forrest

bartle - turtle
barble - turtle
tallow - cricket
hildebear - bear
rappy - duck
savage wolf - wolf
barbarious wolf - wolf
mothvert - id assume moth from the name but id say more of a misketo myself

Actually, Rappies have existed in the PS continuity since the original III... and look a bit more like chickens than ducks. Or maybe ectomorphic parrots... hmm.

What about dimenians, delsabers, boomas, and bulclaws?

They don't seem to resemble anything, and their names give no clue at all

OnnaWren
Aug 9, 2006, 03:42 PM
I think that "del" is directly derived from Palmalantak "d-elm" (as in "D-Elm-Lars"). But anyone who hasn't played the original games (esp. IV) wouldn't know what I'm talking about... -_-

There were also Dimensworms in IV (Dimenians?), Boomas could be so named after their roars, and Bulclaws (Bulk+Claw) is somewhat self-explanatory...

Whee, speculation iz teh funn! XD

Who knows? It sounds kinda strange, but it could make sense.

Incidentally, all I had come up with for Hildetorr was again to take the consonants (trr), which might be like the Latin terra, meaning land. Having never seen a Hildetorr (and not knowing its abilities), I thought it was somewhat earth-colored. I'm thinking you can see why I didn't bother to post that one.

Hildetorr element is megid, i fought one once thinking it will use grants and shot megid at me!

Well then, screw it; they look different anyway. BTW, wow, a Hildetypepersonthingydealymabob with Megid must be quite tough.

Not if you have reasonable dark resistance.

It only will use Megid if you are at a distance or retreating. So don't http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif.l

OK--I get it. It's like the other three with their techniques. You'd think they'd give it Grants, as Dark Falz is still the only opponent I know of who can use Grants. With Ob Lilies around, another enemy with Megid seems unnecessary.

At least its not in the same area as Ob Lillies and with Torr being the rare and less common form, you won't have to deal with it very often.

Also Dark Falz uses Megid sparingly, and Ultimate level Gran Sorcerers in Episode 2 Spaceship also use Grants.

I submit that the "torr" could perhaps refer to "terror". The thing does, after all, spit a cloud of instant-death at you.

Ob Lilies are the culmination of the purest sins of mankind, foucused into one, loathsome flower.

So, yeah. I hate them

I just lower their Attack and defence with lvl 30 jellen and zalure http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif
Anyway 'torr' could stand for 'toros' or 'tauro' which basically means bull. The rarest, but most potent of the hild family, the leader basically. Also moth vert, by using the same technique would mean green moth, as some words seem to come from french or other latin based languages.
I mean, they do that to not make an unbalance between us and the japanese. Like in PSU, Neudaiz is integrally japanese tradition, but they also added european and other area stuff.

I hate ALL the lillies. I can't stand them. So irritating. And everyone knows that Rappies are penguins. And, I thought, by the way, that they resembled those Chirper creatures from PSIII. Probably the same beast as this series is not known for calling things or people the exact same thing.

OnnaWren
Aug 12, 2006, 02:19 PM
Actually, Dezo Penguins are descended from Skytiaras and Dezo Owls...

And yes, Rappies did appear first in PSIII, it was a localization error that dubbed them "Chirpers".

DarthMegatron
Aug 15, 2006, 02:45 AM
I said penguins, not Dezo Penguins. They are meant to be penguins, that's what they look like. In case you didn't know, most species of penguins live in tropical climates. And I was trying to say that both Chirpers and Rappies were the same. I didn't know it was translation error, though.
