this looks like the ultimate opportunity for those who never played them, especially IV, which never appeared in a Collection since Saturn. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

"Sega announced today what could possibly be their best compilation game ever: Sega Genesis Collection.

Set to be released on the Playstation 2 and PSP, Sega Genesis Collection will feature over 30 titles from the "golden age" of Sega console gaming (with some notable omissions as well).

The (incomplete) game lineup:

Virtua Fighter 2
Vectorman
Vectorman 2
Sword of Vermillion
Super Thunder Blade
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Shinobi III
Shadow Dancer: Secret of Shinobi
Ristar
Phantasy Star II
Phantasy Star III
Phantasy Star IV
Golden Axe
Golden Axe II
Golden Axe III
Gain Ground
Flicky
Eternal Champions
Ecco the Dolphin
Ecco: Tides of Time
Ecco Jr.
Deep Attack
Comix Zone
Columns
Bonanza Bros.
Altered Beast
Alex Kidd - The Enchanted Castle

That makes 28. Sega promises over 30 titles, so that means there are a few more that haven't been announced yet.

As a bonus, the PSP version will feature wireless multiplayer on several of the games (though no word yet on exactly which ones).

Sega Genesis Collection will be released this fall and should keep gamers busy for several years. "

Yay, another (incomplete) Phantasy Star Collection (Read: Ports) of the original games.

Despite how much as I love Phantasy Star, expecially the older ones, I can't help but feel the bile in my throat rise when I hear this news.

Someone please wake me when Sega decides to finish off the PSIV Remake and releases the Generations Collection oustide of Japan. No, better yet, don't bother me until we actually hear something out of Rieko Kodama or Tohru Yoshida. After SOA and the WOW/Overworks merger - they've kinda fallen off the face of the Earth.

PSIV never NEVER needs a remake to begin with!!

a port of PSIV is infinite times worth MORE than any remake of it. It's already perfect the way it is.

Ya remakes did improve PS1 and PSII visually but some of the differences are not very pleasant. (like the new character designs not looking as cool as the originals, and some gameplay things that I heard made things like PS1 more linear and tedious than it originally was. )

besides this collection is not focused on just Phantasy Star, it's a Sega Genesis collection so of course the first Phantasy Star won't be included.

so please consider looking at this news from a positive perspective. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

And I used to think that I was a consumer whore...

Sorry, but I don't need the same damned product Sega has already sold to me multiple times over in the past. Not to mention intends to sell me again eventually through online services like Xbox Live, GameTap, WiiConsole Ect...

Doubt it will get released here in the UK, although I don't have a PS2.

Obviously not everybody is going to agree, but I too would rather see the remakes. It's good to re-release originals if they think they'll be picked up by enough people who missed the originals/don't want to emulate/don't have genesis anymore/etc. Personally though, I've played the original enough that I kind of want something fresh by this point, not just another simple port.

And yes, I realize that most aren't going to be 100% happy with the art/music/whatever direction they take remakes in..the thing is, as long as they don't COMPLETELY mess up the gameplay..like..battle system bugs out and is slow as molasses, coupled with a dub that makes my ears bleed (see: ToP GBA!) I think I could deal with a few small disappointments. Of course, I could just be considered weird.

If they're going to do a remake of PSIV, all I ask is 2 things:

1. Leave the game exactly the way it is, in terms of story, graphics, etc. Its really fine as is. If they decided to add more Hunter's Guild missions, Id be OK with that. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
2. FIX THE DAMN LEVEL AND ABILITY BUG! I believe in maxing out your levels if possible & this bug is probably the worst game glitch I've ever heard of! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

I saw this news yesterday on magic-box and I was thriled! Portable Phantasy Star 4 is what i've been hoping for since I got the PS collection for GBA!

As for the Sega ages remakes of PS1 and 2, I have both. Beat PS1, and am currently working on 2. I really like them, but they did change alot of things in the first PS, so much that I didnt really know what I was supposed to do next (i've beaten the original) I never would have gotten through it if it wasnt for this one website that tells you how to get the items. As for PS generation 2, it seems in tact and un changed so far, with the exception of one dungeon (the dungeon where you rescue Teim) is a bit different. Oh and I agree with Saner 100% on the character art for the generation games, it looks CHEAP

Since TJ&E was mentioned, they should make a TJ&E collection (include 3 since I don't have an Xbox, though I DO own the original 2).

ermm I went looking on ebay, for the original PS games I found some but I want to start out with PS1, does the genesis work with old master system games or not? And I heard that you need the 6 button controller for the games is the correct? I will have to buy that too><

I still have my original genesis but I have problems with the power cable, any suggestions?

OnnaWren
Aug 12, 2006, 03:43 PM
The Genesis needs a piece called the Power Base adaptor to work with Master System games.

Phantasy Star games do not require a six-button controller.

As for the AC cable, Yobo (http://www.yobogroup.com) makes replacements for 8-and-16-bit cables...

mmm just looked it up on ebay, will the Power Base work on the smaller genesis?

Anyone else find it just a bit irritating that several of the titles on this compilation can already be played on other Sega game compilations?

The lack of Streets of Rage titles, Shining Force titles, and others is irritating, especially since I already can play Ristar, Flicky, and all the Sonic games from that era on the Sonic Mega Collection.

Sinue_v2

The PowerBase should work with the smaller/different genesis models - but it will not fit properly. You may have to mod the unit a bit. I would suggest sticking the MasterSystem games in the converter first - and then inserting the unit into your Genesis. Avoid unnecessary bumps or movement to the unit.

There was also a Master System player for the GameGear as well, if that's a more viable option.

As for the lack of some of Sega's great Genesis games on this compilation, I only have to ask... did you really expect this to be a complete collection and allow Sega to miss out on the oppertunity to sell you the Genesis Classic Collection vol. II?

well to some, playing PSII-IV on PS2 is worth the collection price itself. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

mmm this is getting nerve racking >_> I really don't want to buy something on ebay if I don't have to. Not only that I am not sure if the power base will work with the small genesis >_<

OnnaWren
Aug 14, 2006, 03:52 PM
Foxix: The Power Base Adaptor will work with the Genesis I (with the headphone jack and volume slider), the Genesis II (medium square-shaped base), and the CDX (I tried it out myself). It will NOT work with the micro-sized Genesis III from Majesco.

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif thank you OnnaWren! hmm never even heard of the micro from majesco O_o

anyway It's great to see the games make a comeback! but shame on sega for not making a total collection. The total amount of games they are cramming in there is amazing.

Actually, no, it won't. I've tried that, too, to no avail. BUT, if you have the Mega drive version of PSI, you can use it with a Game Genie on the Nomad... http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Eh, I'll probably get it, since I never owned a Genesis and I'm quite annoyed by how PSIV does not work with the emulator I use well at all(It freezes going into battles, which has nuked my game back a good 8-12 hours a couple of times when I forgot to make backup savestates during marathon sessions and accidentally overwrote my savestate trying to reload from a freeze, then there's the joy of jumping through hoops to beat La Shiec since that move he does at 1/4 health freezes the game...)

So it'd be nice to play it with a proper controller, hopefully in a form which will not make me want to break things as the game freezes every few minutes. I still haven't been able to finish the blasted game because I've gotten so annoyed with that happening. (That I got as far as I did, Rykros, is a testament to just how good PSIV is that I've been willing to put up with the annoyances)

I agree that PSIV hardly needs a remake outside of fixing the L99 glitch. It already has anime-style cutscenes and great character interaction, all they'd be able to do is... I guess re-draw them?

Maybe it's taking so long because, horror of horrors, they decided to 'upgrade' PSIV by giving it FMV cutscenes. *shudder*

Seems like an odd time to release this, since some Genesis games are going to be available on the Wii's Virtual Console. Sega really loves reselling old games, almost as much as Nintendo

well think of all the people who missed out and can't find a copy of those classics.

they will benefit the most from this. doesn't that make you feel happy for them? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

I would get this colleciton too. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I would love to play Sega games on my PS2 instead of the PC emulators. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Get a PS2 controller adapter for your PC then it plays the same as you using your PC plus its cheaper also if are going to buy the collection id just hold out until the Wii's virtual console comes along then ill buy all the games for a fraction of the price.
(Or ill just download them now)

na I don't like playing games on PC, PC monitors make me feel drained having to be all up close to them. I prefer a sofa and using my large TV. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

plus PS2 is much quieter.

A PC monitor is no different from a Tv i think you might need your eyes checked either that or you have a tiny 4inch by 4inch monitor or something.
Also what you using for a PC a 386!? you must have a pretty crap fan in your PC if is that loud.
