I'm just curious about this, does anyone have this habit in message boards that I have? its like, whenever you see a person's avatar, you think that's how they look like in real life? like for example, someone might see my avatar and think that I look like Maya or something like that.

well in a sense isnt that the general idea, your avatar is suppose to project who you are in way?

If I could, my avatar would be a ginger nut biscuit, digestive, or a choc chip cookie, or a cup of coffee...aaaaah, coffee http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif I can't get through one day without having a munch on a biscuit. My draw and the draws under my bed all have biscuits in them. As I result, I pay the consequence.....if you know what I mean http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Be wary of the youngin's who will see your avatar as a hot chick and PM you
"omg your avvy is hot http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif" regardless of your profile stating male or pictures shown or what have you and vice versa.

People who distinguish gender based on avatars is funny in certain contexts, and a bit surreal in others.

I don't see it as how they look, but more of how they are. The attitude of the avatar is their inner self.

I used to use the most aggressive HUnewearl pic in the avatar directory, until a ton of other people started using it.

Rufina's close enough to my GC in-game avatar http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

As for how someone looks in real life, well, try and ignore avatars http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

You... look like a Grass Assassin?

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Your avatar is your face, in so far as this site is concerned. You are merely the personality hidden behind it. Consider that HUnewearl_Meira and Garrett Courtney may in fact have the same mind, but both exist in different contexts, and therefore have different faces.

Then where does all this put me O_O? I change my avatar regularly, so does that mean I get plastic surgery of the digital soul?

Actually, my sig and avatar both accurately depict my true self. Yes, PSOW, I am a cast.

In other news, I do tend to associate someone's gender w/ their avatar, but before I refer to any of them a he/she I always check their profile....So folks, start posting your gender in your profiles!

Haha, the RL Pic thread has given me quite a shocker more than once http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Even though I know better, everytime I see an avatar of a woman, the first thing that I assume is that the person with that avatar is female ( and vice versa ). As I said earlier, I know better ( I have been known to use a Hucaseal and a Hunewearl avatar from time to time ) but I can still can't stop myself from making that initial assumtion.

I like to think my avatar looks like me.

I agree with Joe on the real Pic thread. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

I sometimes do think people look like their avatars or their characters on pso even though i know its usually not true http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I only associate the avatar with the poster - so no, I don't think anyone really looks like their avatar picture. Then again, when someone changes their avatar, it trips me up because I'm not completely sure I'm still talking to the same person.

I chose my avatar simply because the character in it is a warrior looking guy who is drawn with old-school graphics. I love old games, the old GCA, EGA, Monochrome... doesn't matter. So I consider myself, as my tag says, the EGA warrior. Hence, the picture fits (despite the fact that I'm fairly sure that scene has more than 16 colors).

That, and that avvy is hardly ever used... so it's a bit of a unique avatar at that.

That's true. I've been called a man more than my fair share, and I sometimes get mad because everyone assumes because I post here I'm a guy. Well I'm not I'm a girl. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Haha, I didn't think you were a guy...for one thing, guys don't write <<Prinzezz Robot>> http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif. Don't worry, you're in the clear.

I wanted to pick up on what Sinue said about associating certain characters w/ their Avatars....I do that a lot too. SereneShadows changed both his sig and avatar and I thought I was conversing with an entirely random person -_-. Yikes! For example:

In this very same thread, Shiroryuu and Tycho have the same avatar, as do SubstanceD and Psobsesser....

I remember avatars better than usernames http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_redface.gif

Funny. I had never even thought about it that way. Usually, an avatar is just an avatar to me.

ALTHOUGH- I have a habit of projecting people's personalities behind what they look like in online games. That's why it's usually somewhat awkward when a Male friend of mine makes a very sexy female character.

Actually, when you think about it.. If you're projecting yourself in that way- as a female in an online game, would making a character of the opposite sex be the online equivilant to Crossdressing? Just speculating. What a funny little thought.

Just a quick question... How did you get Kaji as your Avatar?

I've not used an avatar here. I personally thought they were stupid to begin with, then later just settled on the fact that none of them represented my character or personality in any way. For some reason, PSO world won't allow us to use personal avatars saved at like Photobucket, or something, which would allow us to just use anything we want. The only reason I can think they are enforcing this is due to size limits. They enforce the size limits for the signatures just fine though, so I'm not sure why they couldn't do the same for personal avatars.

Sinue_v2

They do it because it's a pain in the ass moderating each and every poster who happens to "unknowingly" break forum rules - then deal with the all too often aftermath of arguments and bad feelings. It's enough that they give us free reign over our sigs, which is also often abused. Avatars don't really mean much anyhow.

There's a sticky topic about it somewhere that Saladwood made.

Though if I had a choice... I'd probably go with an avatar like this... if even only for a short time.

I chose my Avatar 'cause I like it. It represents my personality in no way at all........sigh, wish I could pick a cup 'o coffee avatar though http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif If there was an avatar with an afro, however, then that would represent me.....damn curls.

An avatar isn't always representative of your true self. Some people have looked at me IRL & swore I did something of an...shall we say, herbal past time that I do not do. Apparently, my IRL self is the avatar of a possible...herbalist, tho any who know me knows I do not.

Just thought Id say this, if anything, for laughs. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

My avatar is my avatar because Hahn was my favorite character from PS4. (I was gonna pick Wren or Zio)

I doubt if anybody here look like their avatar (unless your Allos) but I will say that people's personalities can be seen through their avatars.

Yeah, when you mess with one Ass Grassassin--well, nothing really happens, but you can bet someone gets pissed about it. I would have gone with a crimson one, but (a) it's not available, and (b) those Crimson Assassins wouldn't give me a Heaven Punisher! It's only one in about 108,000, though.

Honestly, I think people should choose avatars they like, but at the same time, people's choosing opposite-gender avatars is freaky, uh, not that there's anything wrong with that. I generally do assume that people's genders correspond to their avatars. On that note I would like to establish that my Ass Grassassin (I know what I said) is indeed a male one, so don't call me a hypocrite here.

I just have this avatar because it makes me look so dark and mysterious, which I really am.

But seriously, I do understand the original poster's problem. On these boards I identify the name with the avatar even, and I get thrown off-guard when a frequent poster changes his or her avatarpicture.

My avatar doesn't represent me in anyway shape or form. I just like it cause its something kinda different and the guy has spinny cast eyes which goes along with my whole dizzy-theme.

This is exactly the idea. We all have certain types of images for avatars we might only use and nothing else.

My Avatar is Alfort cause he's my favourite PSU story character (I mean, of what we know of them). He's a damn pirate, arr.
