Oh god such a blow over... but hey.. a newb band won the prize this year as the best and

most incredibly, Lou Reed's comment...

"I personally would like to see Rock split up from Hip-Hop"
-Lou Reed

And you saw Gideon Yago's facial expression... so blank, as if Lou was tired of the bad rap music and bad rock music coming out these years.

I would like to see cheap trick on the shows but MTV had gone Garbage over the years

and whats up with the black guy who yelled out that website "6000" somethin. I heard he crashes carpets on award shows. anyone seen it?

InfinityXXX probably didn't like the results of the Best Hip-Hop award... seeing that a club-genre pop group scored the award... and Common lose. heh

If Muse didn't take some video award for the Knights of Cydonia MV, then I'm sueing.

That thing is MADE OF PURE WIN.

Yeah, I think MTV is also leaning toward commercialism than to what is unique. What a way to sell themselves. I think the only real good show was the Shakira one?

the others were extremely WEAK

Did Gnarls Barkley win anything? They deserve album of the year, as far as I'm concerned. >_>;

Holy crap, that's probably the best video ever! That song ruled when I saw Muse live, too.

Didn't see all of it, but I did catch OK Go's live performance of the Tredmill dance.

Is it just me, or did it seem they were the only sober people at the show?

Like Panic! had any real competition in the best video department? Theirs was the most artsy-fartsy. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif....don't you hate it when that happens.

Yeah but they've always been like that.

And look at Headbanger's Ball....it's turned into MTV's hour for metalcore crap.

I think Beyonce was sober, too.
It was good to see Jay-Z and Nas double date haha.

I used to enjoy it myself. Back in 2000-02 when Good Charlotte raped the show with their crappy reviews of good bands. Now all I see is reality TV on MTV and Andy Milonokis on MTV2. I hear there is an MTV3 out (maybe because of the lack of videos MTV rotates?)

That's not true... the problem is, that the bands who excel at live music are either underground or not to your taste. Jam Bands are a good example of extremely talented musicians who almost never get any headlines or airtime. It's absolutely amazing to see a band take a 3:00 minuite song and streach it into a 30 minuite opus while tossing in and switching off to other songs on the fly all the way through. For example, Keller does an awesome "Loser (http://ia301142.us.archive.org/3/items/kw2005-11-19/kw2005-11-19d2t08_64kb.mp3)" which is a hybrid of both songs from Beck and the Grateful Dead. That wasn't scripted.. from what I understand, he was calling out requests from the croud and heard people yelling for both versions.. so he mixed them right there on the spot.

I pretty much exclusively listen to live music anymore. Studio tracks are far too processed and polished.. there's no soul or heart in it.

Well, I'm not refering to undiscovered artists and talent. I'm refering to the general mainstream music on the radios today. The bands that are out today just don't sound as good live and the music is getting worse. . . not to say there isn't good music it's just less common.

Also, I love all music and it's genres. . . I have favorites but I don't have types I hate, only songs.

I have to agree, I stopped watching MTV altogether since like high school, now its either bands I know through myspace or Music Choice or whatever.

I haven't watched that in years, heh- same for MTV2. Actually, I don't really watch music television much at all now, it's all emo crap on Kerrang, Indie on MTV2. Award ceremonies like the MTV awards are just overglorified events where even the least talented can feel good about themselves.

Not saying I'm talented- far from it, but you have to wonder how on earth some of the new bands got record deals, heh.

THREAD. OVER.

Yeah but MTV doesn't point Rock in the direction it's in today. MTV really isn't much an influence anymore... which MTV Award critics have all wrong. It only pertains to the artists who showed up at the award show. Lou Reed made it seem like MTV is responsible for the hybrid of Rock/Hip Hop music.

Rock/Hip-Hop has been there as long as Hip-Hop has been alive pretty much. They're a match made in heaven when done right.

I didn't catch the awards cause I'm pretty anti-MTV. The only show I watch on MTV is Fight Club.

My mom watched it and I kind of glanced at it every now and then.(My mom eventually turned away from it)

I expected the Black Eyed peas to win best hip hop because its the MTV Awards. I think, out of the nominations, Common (best rapper ever!!!! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif ) should have won but to be honest, a lot of people were cheated out of the nominations.

First of all, 36 mafia should not have been nominated for the hip hop award.

Secondly, the nominations for best dance video were crap. You telling me the pussycatdolls beat out Ciara in dancing? I don't like Ciara but she is one of the best dancers out today and she wasn't even nominated. Even Chris Brown, the no singing teen, wasn't nominated.

The only performances I saw was Pharelle/Ludacris and Beyonce and those performances were mediocre.(Only thing good about Beyonce's performance was the slow dance break)

But I expected all this comming from MTV. Ever since they started putting out shows called "Yo Mama" and "Parental Control", which are all scripted, I knew MTV was finally gone.

All award shows are horrible now. only one I watch is the BET awards, even though it has some mainstream performances, they at least recognize undeground/true musicians.

Dude... the SOURCE and VIBE Awards is the best. They be stabbing and shootin people there. So you know that can't be scripted haha. I personally think Young Buck should've used a sharper knife though.

You're right about the performances. The black musicians gettin' lazy with their money, and Jay-Z and NaS slept this year out to make anything big.

Beyonces hydrolic was ok... but yeah you're right... no fire in the performances.... the platform goes up and shes just standin there. She had time to dance on that thing while it was movin'
