View Full Version : PSO pronunciation guide

For me, I really never have to pronounce PSO-related words in real life. Most often, it's in the game itself or on message boards and the like, and the words are always typed. But when PSO Xbox arrives, it will bring voice communication to PSO. And there are just a lot of words in PSO that I really don't know how to pronounce. And maybe nobody (save the developers) knows how they're properly pronounced. I suppose you just try to say it phoenetically. But I'm guessing that there will be a lot of this kind of thing:
"Cool, I just found a _____."
"____? Oh, you mean _____!"
"Is that how you say it?"
Just a few sample words: bhirava, vjaya, aqhu, gifoie, pofuilly.
It would be interesting to see a PSO pronunciation guide online, though I don't know who would go to the effort, and who would set a standard.

Well, here's how I pronounce these things:
Bhirava: bih-ra-vuh
Vjaya: (v)zhA-yah (the 'v' is really quiet, almost silent, but it's still there)
Foie: fOh-ee
Zonde: zon-day
Gi-(mid level technique): guy
Orotiagito: Oh-roh-tee-A-gee-toh (yes, that's the correct spelling and pronunciation, some people just can't get it right for some reason)
Aqhu: Ak-hoo
Pofuilly: pOh-f`whil-ee
Any questions on how to pronounce anything else?

I use something close to the Japanese pronunciations, which are more or less accurate (hell, they made the game). So, gifoie would be (hard g) "gee-foi-eh", and zonde is "zon-deh," for example. Some weapons and mags are a little harder, but that's when I use phonics or something.

for vjaya I always use a scandinavian pronunciation. in those languages the j becomes a hard H sound. that would make the pronunciation "vee eye'ah"

Why do you do the O in FO and the U in HU as long vowels but the A in RA is short? I usually say Ray-caseal and Ray-mar and Ray-cast.
