I've been browsing forums and have been seeing topics proclaiming things that speculate keyboards, modems, dupe bugs, the whole lot. I'm going to put to rest some of the biggest scares yet.

Rumor #1 - The modems and BBA's have been discontinued.

Status: False

Origin: A poster on ragol.com broke news that Gamestop recieved an email saying that the modems and BBAs have been discontinued. This is false, Nintendo has stopped shipping to larger chains such as EB, Gamestop, and Amazon.com to get shipments to all the stores who have a preorder backlog. If you want a modem and/or BBA, go to Wal-Mart or something.

UPDATE: I just received the following from Nintendo:

Message(#6851-000082-1831821831)

Hello,

As with most rumors, the one you asked about is false. Nintendo GameCube Broadband Adapter and Nintendo GameCube Modem Adapter are NOT "discontinued". They are currently sold out.

While we do not have information on availability of Sega's Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II, I can tell you the game has NOT been "discontinued".

Because of the popularity of new products, they can sometimes be extremely hard to find. Although we are currently backordered on these two accessories, you may want to check with the following retailers to see if they have any in stock:

Toys 'R Us
Phone Number: 1-888-869-7932
http://www.toysrus.com

Wal-Mart
http://www.walmart.com

Best Buy
http://www.bestbuy.com

Please note: Just as soon as we get more Broadband Adapters and Modem Adapters back in stock, we will have them available again through our Online Store (http://store.nintendo.com -- U.S. orders only). Please keep checking our web site for any updated information.

One more thing, I wanted to let you know that we are inviting all of our consumers with Internet access to sign-up for our new My Nintendo membership program. As a member of this program, you can view the status of any order, repair, or subscription you set up with us. You can keep us up to date on your game preferences, the systems you own, and the type of information you want to receive via our exclusive e-mail newsletters. To become a registered member (which is free), go to http://www.nintendo.com and click on the "My Nintendo" icon located on the right-side of the screen.

Subject: Could you verify this?!

I was browsing different forums related to Phantasy Star Online Episode I &
II, and I saw a topic that said Nintendo discontinued the modems and BBAs.
Alarmed, I called my local Gamestop, and they told me that the game itself
has also been discontinued! What parts, if any, are true?

Rumor #2 - There is a dupe bug in the US version of PSO Episode I & II

Status: True

Origin: A website that I will not mention posted a method for a dupe bug found in the US copies of the game. People found the site and news spread like wildfire to forums all over the net. The dupe bug is very risky, has a high chance of character corruption, and you CANNOT mass dupe with it. Which is good. I have corrupted 14 characters messing with this code. Once you get the timing down, it works just about everytime, but the risks are too high.

Rumor #3 - There are plans for a US keyboard from SEGA or Nintendo.

Status: False

Origin: Hopeful people. Emails to both companies were returned with the same phrase," There are no plans to release a keyboard..." A third party has the opportunity to make one, but it won't be for a long time.

Thanks for the info. I also heard the US dupe bugs causes corruptions, so it's pretty much pointless too try it.

The link to buy it is no longer active and if you navigate http://store.nintendo.com you will find that the broadband adaptor is not listed in the accessory section for Gamecube... however, the modem is.

VERY odd. Especially in the light of all the other stores delisting it.

Yeah, it's pretty stupid risking losing EVERYTHING just to "dupe" a weapon that can be found in fucking HARD MODE. Good, any idiot who tries this deserves what they get.
