I rarely post sirious topics, so this is a bit out of character for me.

I'm not sure if there are many Hungarians on the forums, but I should let people know that today marks the 50th aniversary of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. I'm part Hungarian, and I've learnt so much from that part of my family. My grandfather was and still is one of the main reasons I play music.

Today I went to a flag raising cerimony in front of City Hall as well as a banquet in the evening in honor of this occastion. It's weird, because Hungary is such an often forgotten country that has gone through so much mess, that it was great to finally have a day to reflect on Hungary's history.

Anywho, I'm probably boring most of you, but if there are any Hungarians on the boards, I hope you too are celebrating this time as well. Cheers!

Well, I'm not Hungarian, but I was aware of the celebration. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif For one, it made the National News, all day long. (Probably more due to the fact that there were some Dutch politicians present, silly narrow-minded Dutch media.. )
No doubt I would have picked it up anyway; my father's always interested in Hungarian affairs.

I've visited Hungary once, and the place emanated history. Very impressive. Unfortunately you are right about Hungary being oft forgotten, together with most countries in Easter (or Middle) Europe.

It's a shame that the Anniversary ended in violence. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_nono.gif I can hardly argue that the protestants didn't have a valid point to argue about. But this was neither the time, nor the way to demonstrate.
