Topic says it all, I think. :/ Firewall permissions set, antivirus off, etc. No router.

Actually, I just fixed mine. I found an inactive copy of NOD32 on my system...uninstalling it made it work. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I wish I could help, but after all that has been posted is done, I've never seen Error 51 persist...
If all else fails: contact your ISP, downstream data from the server maybe getting snubbed. Your ISP does have the power to open certain ports for your account if necessary.

i really doubt its a port issue bc its so random with the people its happening too. and if it is a port issue then i am screwed bc im at college and i dont see any way to get around the firewall. All other games work fine and so did the xbox 360 beta

bassec
Oct 26, 2006, 01:30 PM
I've opened ports, I've disabled antivirus and I've disabled firewall. Contacting my ISP shouldn't be the solution...

bassec
Oct 26, 2006, 01:31 PM
Yeah, I'm at college too, but I could play WoW, Star Wars Galaxies and a bunch of different MMO's. Why would PSU be any different?

Aaron777
Oct 26, 2006, 01:32 PM
So no one has any idea whats going on huh? thats too bad...

Oct 26, 2006, 01:33 PM
Unfortunately it may just be the luck of the draw as far as connectivity behind firewalls at certain colleges. Does your school have some ResNet or Network administration you could procure some info from, cause as far as this issue, I'm stumped.

bassec
Oct 26, 2006, 01:47 PM
Ahh. I think I may have found my problem. My home page of my dorm's ISP is "resNet by Apogee".

Does that provide any help, or any possible solutions?

uhawww
Oct 26, 2006, 01:50 PM
Not especially, you need to contact them, however, if only for piece of mind.

bassec
Oct 26, 2006, 01:52 PM
Im on the phone with them right now...so far, not good.

bassec
Oct 26, 2006, 01:53 PM
well the good news is they don't block any ports...now to figure out what's causing it on my end.

uhawww
Oct 26, 2006, 01:54 PM
Damn. Sorry I can't be of much more help.
Error 51, when not associated with server load, is a monster.
Best of luck to you.
I'll let you know if I get any further insight.

Thanks...I just don't understand. UGH. Does your computer need to have a static IP set? How do you forward ports besides your firewall? My windows firewall is off, and I'm using McAfee, but it's disabled AND the ports are forwarding...

I just don't understand.

uhawww
Oct 26, 2006, 02:01 PM
The only two places you should need (and that is only if you need) to forward or open ports is local firewall level and then Router/Virtual server level. Other than that, you should be gravy...though this doesn't seem to be the case.

Here's a question:
What ethernet adapter are you using (check in Device manager > Network adapters)

The people at the sega forums say that it's not ISP or firewall or anything else like that but most likely on sega's end...

Aaron I am now 24 hours after purchasing PSU and have seen Error 51 for about 20 of those hours.

The level of frustration is beyond belief.

I have done just about everything I can to troubleshoot this.

Sega has YET to say a word about it, despite the 10 page thread in the PC support forum.

I am considering returing at this point despite wait SO long to play this.

Aaron777
Oct 26, 2006, 02:27 PM
So you acutally got in at one point?

I too have been looking forward to this game for so long but I'm so annoyed right now, I really don't know what to do. Error 51 all night and still after I got up. Like everyone else, I can identify no port or firewall issue. What is this!!!??? Is it even possible to return an opened PC game to EB? I mean, I'll play the PS2 version if it's only damn thing that will work. This is ridiculous.

Well if they perfrom a routine maintenance tonight perhaps they will get off their arses and fix this problem...

Solarsail
Oct 26, 2006, 02:56 PM
One can hope!

If I can't log in by tonight after maintenance, I'm gonna return the thing out of frustration. So sad. This was supposed to be a time of joy! >.<

OK, I think I'm getting somewhere...my PSU ports are still closed, according to this website. How do I open them if I don't have a router, and I don't have a firewall turned on?

Yeah, any of you who are on a college network and haven't checked to see if they're blocking ports yet, I would recommend it. If uninstalling NOD32 hadn't fixed it, that was the next thing I suspected (though I wanted to see if someone else here had any ideas.) I suspected it because the school blocking ports keeps me from using most voice chat (Yahoo, Ventrillo, etc., everything but Skype basically).

I've confirmed twice that all TCP ports are open on my ISP's part. I have no clue what's going on.

How do you find NOD32, and what is it?

Guys, according to those much smarter than I on the SEGA boards, it is 100% a SEGA-side issue that needs to be fixed. People have tried different motherboards, network cards, ISPs, video cards, BIOS configs etc. Some people have gotten various results, but none that have had Error 51 have been able to get passed it, and like I said, it is a SEGA related issue with something internal. It will have to be fixed by SEGA.

I've been following that error 51 thread over at the Sega board.

I've had that problem myself, and I'm also using the onboard NIC of a nForce chipset. Here's something I did which fixed it, I haven't seen this brought up yet.

Open the nvidia network access manager, and configure the firewall settings to allow psu.exe and online.exe. This I assume everyone has done. Next, do the same for active armor, set both psu.exe and online.exe to offloadable. That did it for me, no need to turn off firewall even. Funny thing is, if I turn the firewall off completely, I still get error 51. I'm guessing 'Activearmor' stays on no matter what you mess with the firewall.

Oh wow...
I remember PSO:BB having a connection and patch problem with nVidia Integrated MoBo chipsets and LAN managers.
I really hope they didn't flub this up twice in a row...

Well the thing is...my ports are still either closed or stealthed, the ports PSU needs, yet they arn't blocked by my router (I dont have one), and my ISP has confirmed that they do not block ports. I uinstalled my firewall, and yet the ports are still closed. any idea?

Aaron777

has anyone tried completely reinstalling windows XP?

peachgirldb
Oct 26, 2006, 06:22 PM
NOD32 is an anti-virus program. If you don't know what it is, it's probably not your problem, since it's not standard software, but if you're not sure, run a search for anything named NOD32.

hmm... clean boot got it working. ONCE.

I am starting to think this is some form of server instability... If a clean boot worked once, it should have worked the second time...

At least I got through the tutorial... and found a 7-star rare in it =D
