Why the hell is it Fortetecher anyways? That's just asking for... something. I know Forte is in there, but adding -cher could have solved it well. Is SoA so scared of plagiarizing SoJ? D:

Fortetecher reminds me of Yu-Gi-Oh. It's time to d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-duel!

Psh, the net has enough abbreviations and acronyms as it is. Soon people are going to just be speaking in sentences with no kind of grammar what so ever and no word exceeding three letters..

I'll prefer to just call it something else..

To be fair, "Forte" refers to one with superior strength.
In such a context I suppose "Fort" may work if you go by the idea of something being reinforced (eg: "Fortified with Calcium, drink your milk, Kids!"). Though even that is a stretch.

Either way, it's just an "e," get over it.

Maxson
Dec 1, 2006, 12:54 AM
I'm guessing it's pronounced "fort", not "for-tay". Both are acceptable and popular pronunciations.

http://www.webster.com/dictionary/forte

I think "fort-techer" is far easier and cooler sounding than "for-tay-techer", so that's what I'm going with.

Gazette
Dec 1, 2006, 12:55 AM
No, Forte does work a hell of a lot better than Fort given the job description.
It's isn't a Force, it's a Stronger-Force.

I'm pretty sure it's sapose to mean Forte Techer as in One who is Speacialised in Technics, Same with ForteFighter, speacialised in fighting, and fortegunner one who is speacialised in gunniry

Maxson
Dec 1, 2006, 12:59 AM
Hm... well, it's just a pronunciation difference, the meaning is still "superior strength" or "one's strong point". If people don't like the extra syllable, they can just ignore it.

This thread is awesome. Content update comes in, everyone has been asking (demanding!) it. It has pretty much everything we want, opens up a huge amount of new content. ST delivered.

Kent
Dec 1, 2006, 02:34 AM
I'm guessing they just decided to keep it consistant with the "Forte" part meaning someone who's specialized in one thing. For those complaining... Would you rather they used "Uber" instead?

Forte means strong.

As in musical score, to play Forte means to play strongly, powerfully.
Also, if something is your Forte (i.e. "I'm good at football, but basketball is my forte.") that means you're good at it.

Fortetecher. Makes sense, it's a stronger Force.

Why is this a big deal again?

Flunky
Dec 1, 2006, 04:45 AM
I was gonna hop in and give te whole pronuncin' deal, but ZiG and Shimarisu already covered it (I thought for-tay was italian, though, and the french had a silent 'e'... then again, it's been over 4 years since I've heard a word of either and my language memory/skills are crap, so yeah).

Right.

Generally you're right on the silent e, but i believe in this situation a proper french spelling would have an accent on it, forcing the pronounciation of the sylable. Lazy english keyboard makers. I blame them.

It's a moot point though, Remedy calling "Forte" a bad localization is like saying that "saber" should have been called "sabe" because he doesn't like saying the last "r".

Removing that "e" changes the description, not just the spelling.

Forte* implies strength or great skill.
Fort is just... a building, a fort, maybe you could stretch it to reinforced, but that sounds like the force is a lumbering monster with great defenses.

I digress, Remedy is just ignorant when he says that they translated it wrong.

Fighter = Hunter
Gunner = Ranger
Techer = Force

Forte = expert

The combine all of these in the expert classes:

Forte-fighter
Forte-gunner
For-te-cher (instead of two "te" in it, to shorten it, yes, its stupid, but thats what they've done)
Fi-gunner (FIghter/gunner)
War-techer (as in WARrior I guess, instead of Fi-techer...)
Gun-techer(GUNner/techer)

Ok, it's been said multiple times, and it's just common sense people, but some folks don't pay attention. Fortefighter...fighting is their forte. Their speciality. Fortegunner...guns, and getting the best from them is their forte. Fortetecher..Techs and teching is their forte. Fortecher's just retarded and wouldn't make any sense whatsoever, whether you dislike the way fortetecher sounds or not.
