Elemental Armor question

I hear mixed things, so I'm wondering if anyone can answer my question for sure (not speculation).

1 )Elemental armor reduces damage from specific elements, does that also include melee damage from an enemy of that same element? Likewise are you weaker to apposing elements (including melee damage)?

2) Also, this question might be a bit harder. Does elemental damage mitigate before or after your defense is calculated, or is there an equation where I'm guessing both are factored in at the same time.

Yes it includes melee damage, wearing lightning armor I will take less damage from Vahra. You will take more damage from attacks opposite of the armor, so wearing fire or ice can be dangerous on most Neudaiz stages.

Another note, Onmagougs "lightning" attack is actually fire element
