All right all you music lovers out there! Post your 3 favorite albums of this year (doesn't have to be in a particular order), and why is it your favorite. Here are mine:

Nas - Hip Hop is Dead
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a299/MixMasterMark/Nas-FrontCover.jpg
Without a doubt(lol I typed dead) the best Hip Hop album of the year (ironically).
Nas definately makes a statement with this album and he does it through 16 damn near flawless tracks. To me its a certifable classic that will go down in Hip-Hop history, but thats just me.

Kidz in the Hall - School was my Hustle
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a299/MixMasterMark/SchoolwasmyHustle.jpg
Great debut album. It didn't really make massive waves in the hip hop community but people turned thier heads to see who the new kids were. I can't wait for thier sophmore album, definately a lot of potential to be a great duo.

Lupe Fiasco - Food & Liqour
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a299/MixMasterMark/FoodandLiqour.jpg
The best debut album of the year. Probably also one of the most innovative albums as well. I definately wasn't expecting what I heard when I first put the CD in. At first I didn't like it that much but after repeated listens it definately grows on you. It takes your full attention to catch the complete meaning of the album, but once you do its great.

So those are mine. Even though '06 isn't done yet we can pretty much say it is, for the sake of the thread. So what are YOUR favorite albums of the year?

The Nas album surprised the hell out of me. Friend sent me a track from it and I didn't really give it much thought. Saw it in store one day and picked it up for $10 and it's probably the best rap album I've heard all year. It's a pretty damn solid album front to back.

Muse - Black Holes and Revelations
Was a bit more poppy than I'd have liked it to have been, but still has some over the top, bombastic, typical Muse with stuff like Hoodoo and Take a Bow.

TOOL - 10,000 Days
I'm a TOOL fangirl, so it was a definite for it to be there. I will say, though, that the formula is getting a bit tired. Still doesn't stop every track on here that's actually a song from being damn good. Wings for Marie Pt II, Jambi, Rosetta Stoned, The Pot and Right In Two are sexcellent.

Thom Yorke - Eraser
Delightfully Amnesiac-ish. A new Radiohead album would have been more preferable, but I'm more than happy with this. Short and sweet, but saw many repeat spins in the ol CD player.

Stealin' amazon's pics, 'cause visuals for audio are the best.

I usually don't collect (or listen to) music by-the-album, so it's difficult for me to choose favorite albums. I'll try anyway:

The Knife - Silent Shout
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/P/B000FWHVKA.01._AA240_SCLZZZZZZZ_V65003357_.jpg
Quirky electrostuff with a sound that is simultaneously fun and eerie. The vocals have a very distinctive, distorted sound which I'd say most people will probably love or despise. Give 'em a listen.

Electric Six - Señor Smoke
http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/P/B000E11590.01._AA240_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
It's not very serious--okay, not at all--but it rocked my socks (toe, knee, holey... all varieties).

The Flaming Lips - At War with the Mystics
http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/P/B000EGDNCW.01._AA240_SCLZZZZZZZ_V56509890_.jpg
So this was my first encounter with the Lips, and now I'm craving more. I think that says it all for me.

Honorable Mentions / I'm Still Listening

Guster - Ganging Up on the Sun
Only picked this up yesterday, but so far me likey.

Blow Up Hollywood - The Diaries of Private Henry Hill
You can listen to some of BUH's tracks from TDPHH and previous releases on their website (http://www.blowuphollywood.com/home.html) and judge for yourself. Personally, I <3.

Cut Chemist - The Audience's Listening
"The Garden" and "(My First) Big Break" are killer.

Have yet to get my hands on, but I know it will be delish...

Barenaked Ladies - Barenaked Ladies are Me
Because BNL always delivers. One of my all-time favorite bands.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e6/Stadiumarcadium.jpg

To me, it was an album that reminded me of their early work (in a good way). Kind of like going back to what they were known for.

Iron Maiden - A Matter of Life and Death
http://www.spark-rockmagazine.cz/underwood/galerie/imamold.s.jpg

Some really good songs. Enough said http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Incubus - Light Grenades
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/P/B000JBXXZ4.01._SS400_SCLZZZZZZZ_V35540414_.jpg

Again, awsome songs. The first single, Anna Molly, is probably the best I have heard from them in a while

SIR DIZZALICIOUS GETS 1 POINT OF AWESOME FOR INCLUDING NAS, other than that..

http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g51/Xaos127/dradvocate.jpg
What ? The Game releases tracks that aren't disses?! and it's good?!?!! Oh yeah.

http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g51/Xaos127/Fullcircle.jpg
Xzibit is highly underrated in my opinion, eventhough he is "mainstream" he doesn't have the popularity along the lines of Mr Cent or even Busta.

THANKS FOR THE AWESOME POINT UNDERSCORE!

You might revoke it after this though. I'ma hafta disagree with you on The Doctor's Advocate. I admit The Game can be hot SOMETIMES, but most of the time its just the stellar production he gets that makes him so popular. His albums has some of the best production in the game but his lyrics just don't match that. He name drops way too much (I read a review that said he name dropped liek some 50-60 times and about 30 of them were Dr.Dre.) and he's always rapping about low riders and all that other stuff. He has yet to show that he has any sort of longevity or variety, then again its only his sophmore album. But wutev.
I never did catch the Xzibit album. I don't really pay attention to him. Maybe I oughta downl- I mean...Buy it later.

There will be no need for revoking!
I actually totally agree with you on some points, Dr Dre isn't even on his record yet he says his name about 3 times a song on average. AND the actual album name, Doctor's Advocate, is a reference to the great beat maker. But I was a major NWA fan that's why I like him so much and Game was majorly influenced by them, not unlike Mr Lupe with It Was Written by Nas.

Hmm, yeah... I couldn't come up with too many albums from 2006 that I loved, either. But here are a few from 2005!

"Catch Without Arms" by Dredg
http://www.punknews.org/images/covers/dredg-catch_without_arms.jpg
A little lighter and more radio-friendly than most previous Dredg stuff, but I liked it. A lot.

"Let It Die" by Feist
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/ab/Feist_Let_It_Die.jpg/200px-Feist_Let_It_Die.jpg
Leslie Feist (Broken Social Scene) is utterly amazing and exists pretty far outside the normal pop sphere. This CD also pioneered the much-covered-by-popular-indie-bands song, Mushaboom.

"Oh No" by OK Go
http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/8/89/200px-OkGo_OhNo.jpeg
OK Go is pure awesomeness, especially live, and Oh No is a great album. I can't think of anything else to say. My brain is melted from finals.

Hellz Yeah Dizzy!, That Lupe Fiasco CD is off the meatracks! I would have bought the CD for American Terrorist alone! Lupe reminds me of a combination of Digable Planets and a Tribe Called Quest all rolled up into one man.

Any one pick up the New Jay-Z album?

I did. I was so dissapointed in it. Its not a bad album but its just sorta ho-hum, ya know? Being that its Jay-Z I expected a monumental record off of him, but he failed to deliver. Everyone who I talk to about the album feels the same way too.

solid, quirky, fun. sophmore album, better than the first... and it can only get better when you have a woman singing in 5 different languages...

HK119 (self titled)

http://www.HK119.com
i think i've listened to this album and watched the videos (most on youtube) about 50+ times and i STILL can't get enough!
its punk, its electro... and its a futuristic psycho drama about mass consumerism. ha! love it http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

noteworthy:
Peaches - Impeach my Bush
because you gotta love Peaches ^_^

I'll have to check my iTunes library on my main computer tomorrow (or, I guess, later today, since it's 2:00 AM http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif), but as far as I know, I've only gotten two albums that were released in 2006, and one DVD that I count as an album in its own right.

In no particular order:

St. Elsewhere, Gnarls Barkley. This is an absolutely excellent album that seamlessly combines soul, pop, and hip-hop influences into a funky, joyous collection of infectious and well-made songs.

Demon Days: Live at the Manchester Opera House, Gorillaz. An awe-inspiring show from beginning to end. The live version of one of my favorite albums does justice to the original, and then some. The visuals are striking, but the music performance itself is quite worthy on its own merits.

The Eraser, Thom Yorke. This is what happens when everbody's favorite paranoid and lazy-eyed singer decides to make an album that is equal parts Björk electronics and Radiohead-style lyrics with raw vocals. A very compelling listen, although it is a bit short.
