My friend and I just got this game and we are wondering how to party up via ad-hoc. Is there a certain point in the story that it becomes available or is it available from the start? Where is the menu where it is available?

To be more clear on this issue, we can't figure out how to actually party up via the ad-hoc counter. There are two options that both seem to connect to ad-hoc, but neither of them result in us finding eachother in a party regardless of which we choose. We have both tried each choosing one (in case option 1 was hosting and option 2 was joining). Has anyone out there managed to party up successfully?
If it helps, we are both using NA Vitas with the JP version of the game.
I've linked up via adhoc with a friend plenty of times; even with the Demo.
You and your friend may want to make sure you both have the latest version (1.05), because the patches add a bunch of new stuff that would make older versions compatible. A version mismatch is probably the most likely culprit.
And yes: At the adhoc counter, one option is for hosting, while the other is for joining.
I can't adhoc either. Both NA Vitas with 1.05.
