Probably because the PS2 version is the same way. Or I should say because the 360 version IS the PS2 version.

I just want to be able to play with the JP PS2 players. I remember on GC PSO I spent 90% of my time on the JP servers just because they had so much more teamwork.

I don't think it would scratch much at all. The glossy plastic on the PSP seems very resilient. I'm not sure why but on the black parts there appears to be no scratches at all. So maybe high gloss...
