No I meant that there probably is NOT going to be a lack of depth, especially because of the things you mentioned. Size "maybe" meaning it could be an issue, but it remains to be seen.

Dunaway: 'No Plans' For DSi-Exclusive Retail Titles

Depth no, size maybe.
I actually like this idea. We didn't need that many universes. Even at the peak times(the beginning of the game...) we only would need 10.
EDIT: I remain skeptical that they'll be retail DSi games. I really don't think Nintendo wants to split its market like that.
From all the sources I've seen there will be no retail DSi software. And the reason was because they want everyone to be able to play retail DS games. That could change in the future, But I haven't...
DS games that aren't downloaded from DSiWare wont be able to use DSi features, so they won't be able to expand it that way.
Oh, and the game you were talking about that uses a GBA cart to expand...
I hope its a huge upgrade, but I really doubt it's gonna be anything mind-blowing like some of you have mentioned. If there's a new expansion then we could at the least expect:
New Areas

That Edge-Online article seems to have several errors, they list MH3 as not having online either.
Even the Xbox 360 uses DVDs for game content. Maybe you mean downloadable content?
I've heard a lot of good things about MH1 & 2 I think I may pick this up.
I would of liked there to be a PSO-like MAGs in PSU. Because of the lack of MAGs and materials all race / class / gender combinations have the same stats. All level 140 male beasts fortefighters...
I love this news. The style is a welcome change, at least I'm not bothered by it. They didn't say who's making the music though. I can't wait to hear more gameplay details! Looks like a PSO-PSU...
Well theres a game to get if I ever really decided to get a PSP. Phantasy Star Portable and Power Stone Collection are 2 reasons.
But I have a feeling that PS portable might not have much...
I love the look of these:

Durandal and Varista ...
Hmm, I don't think I care about specifics that much in PSU. I cared more in PSO where theres more variety in equipment and individual strength. In PSU I'm just a beast who can transform and do a crap...
PSO:
More detailed, interesting Areas
More rares and more variety in rares, especially because of special abilities on rarer weapons.
More tight-knit community(at first, I'm refering to PSOBB)...
PC for me
