Stand on top of them and select the option which will destroy it. I never payed much attention to how much points are needed if needed but you can do this up to about 5 times per player per run.

This is true, you need to get used to positioning yourself over it but once you do, it's no problem snatching up crystals in the A.I.S, you can't revive/use items as far as I know.
