It says "If you already have a GUARDIANS License and are playing on the full version servers, you can also participate. Simply play on the DEMO servers all weekend and you’ll be awarded the Tails item on the delivery day along with everyone else."
Can we bring our regular characters on to the demo servers? or do we have to start a new character? Also, if someone plays on the demo and then decides to buy a license, does that character transfer to the retail vrsion now? I know it didn't used to be that way.

No, you can't take you characters onto the demo servers. You need to start fresh.

No, the game recognizes your Gamertag and that's how they know who to give the Tails statue to. You cannot carry over Demo characters in the retail version.
