I prefer random because set order just causes problems.
A) Don't pick up xx. I get tired of it, some of the mats I want, though many I don't. When someone does accidently pick it up, the person who got it bitches cause they just lost their spot.
B) Don't care what you say, it doesnt always seem to work, Ive picked up 4 rares in a row and had them go to diff people...Ive picked up 4 and gotten 2 of them
C) tied in with A somewhat, as far as I can tell it doesnt consider item value at all, yo get a vulcaline and game counts it as being as valuable as a [b] Blackheart is, and nothing is more disheartening then getting a rare spawn and realizing you just received a stelnium so even if the rare drops you have no chance.
I just prefer random, sometimes it favors someone, sometimes not, hey its random. No complaining, no arguments about broken or not, or rules on what gets picked up and what doesn't etc. Just keeps it simple.

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like I'm going with "give to finder" from now on.
Waah, Don't do that! Just think of it like...
Set in Order: The moment the rare hits the ground, it already has been picked to go to someone.
Random: The person a rare is chosen to go to is decided after you picked it up. It's random.
Give Finder: Everybody hates everybody.
If you're like most people, it doesn't matter which one you picked if a rare doesn't go to you in a random party. You'll be wishing you picked another distro.
I hate give finder, it's total crap. Everyone's trying to shadow the rare enemy/get to the boxes first. They're always running to get the item instead of fighting. Rangers and techers have a disadvantage, more so for techers because rangers can just use a mobile weapon. And guess what, I usually pick the item up first anyway, and I have to listen to the ppl who WANTED give finder whine because I pick up items too fast. I always play with rare in order and normal in random, both in random, or both in order. Most of the ppl I play with prefer rares to be distributed as well.
P.S. everyone has something they want that other ppl dun want. Someone's always going to get that rare item and you'll hate it no matter what the circumstances are. Like photons are not worthless, you can get 20 in a mission and I sell them for 1k each or I use them. Most items have a use and are valuable. It's just up to each individual to decide what they think they need, and they will pick it up. If you're playing with friends or a strict rare hunting party though you can always: have one designated person pick up rares and set in order, have that person only pick up the specified rare items.

give finder means techers and rangers leave the group >.> I prefer to focus on my job, not whats at the mobs feet

random has the best chance of equal opportunity. set in order is easily haxxored, and give finder should never be used ever. even soloing, i keep it on random.
if you're worried about not getting any drops, play with friends who will share boards with each other.

Thanks to Siertes for recording this. We tested PSU's "Set to Order" option.
Siertes and I were in a 2 person locked group. Unsafe Passage C with rares were set to finder and normal items were set in order.
First item dropped was a dimate. Second item dropped was an acenaline. Third item dropped was wenceline.
I picked up the acenaline, which went to me. If drops were already predetermined, then by process of elimination, the dimate can never go to me and must go to Siertes.
Next I picked up the wenceline, which went to Siertes.
Finally I picked up the dimate, which went to me. It did not already belong to Siertes. The dimate and the acenaline were the first and second items dropped and they both went to me.
This proves that the owner of an item is not determined the moment it drops. This test shows that an item's ownership is determined the moment that item is picked up.

Thanks again to Siertes for recording this.
Siertes and I were in a two person locked group. Sleeping Warriors S2 with rares were set in order and normal items were set in order. The order in which the items drop doesn't matter, as proven already.
First item picked up was a ban-photon. This went to Siertes. Process of elimination means the second item picked up in this first set must go to me.
Second item picked up was kerseline. This went to Siertes. The kerseline can't be the second item in the first set. The first item picked up and the second item picked up both went to Siertes. This means they were not in the same set.
The first normal item and the first rare item picked up both went to Siertes. This proves that rares are not sorted with non rare items. The distributer keeps separate track of rares and normals if both are set in order.
