    holy shit, that was disappointing.

    Spoiler!

I've been trying to synth stuff for the past half hour or so, and still can't see the point in it. most of the boards sold at shops are also purchasable at the shop as weapons, so why not save the trouble, materials, and buy directly from the shop?

.. yeah, whatever. I'll probably be online within a few days.

Online is ftw. The stuff in AoI offline is the first set of online story missions...

Yeah, PSU offline really isn't all that spectacular. I just play it because there really aren't any other good offline-capable dungeon-crawlers with both highly customizable characters and a futuristic theme. MMORPGs and ORPGs pretty much dominate the freestyle RPG scene (as opposed to story-oriented) right now, and sci-fi RPGs are rare enough to begin with...

That, and while I have some major issues with PSU's battle engine, too, I prefer it to PSOs' hands-down. Sure, heavy attacks and a weapon-independent TP gauge were nice, but moving around and combo timing in PSO just feel so cludgy after having played PSU.

Welcome to PSU, by the way.

It's a good place, especially offline modes, if you like being disappointed.

ProTip: To damage your credibility, simply call any of the Phantasy Star games "massively-multiplayer."

Yeah, the ending sucked, ep1 at least had the big Fakis battle.

... Is it just me, or is synthing as a whole generally an expensive process?

Specifically in the case of the Vish whip, where I was just curiously experimenting. It's a new weapon, but I happened to have all the materials. The board for it costs more than the weapon from the shop itself. and need i mention PM/Pete's possibility of failure in crafting it.

I hope there are some online-only boards/weapons? Next on my list is Dr Ragan Slayer, but apparently, that's an offline srank, only sold in shops? wtf?

Offline you will see many items that are yet to be released online. At least its a small incentive to play offline. This way you will know what you will want once it is released online. Also there are online content not available offline such as side quests and the casino. Not to mention I have yet to encounter any "rare" monsters offline. As to the board synthing, it is more to your benefit specially if there is an element involved to synth your own gear, you will have a better chance of higher percentage yield.

As a side note, I have yet to find ANY forum/web site that has an extensive outline of items acquired offline. Seems everyone is mostly concerned with online stuff and what the Japanese servers are getting =/

There you go, Sen. Everything you really need to know for offline, in one place (though there's still debate on whether certain rare monsters exist offline: Rappies, Jaggos, and the Svaltus clones are confirmed, but not Jigobooma or the E. Brain one).
