His name in Chinese pronounce is Guan Uu(when you pronounce "Uu" as "う" in Japaneses). however, because there is no way to pronounce that in correctly with English, everything with "う"(Uu) sound will turn into "Yu" or "Wu". in this case "Yu". So this is the same, They can't say it as Uu, because western people has no idea how to spell that (う） so they just end up using Yu.
It is not the correct way to pronounce, but it is just the same as how western people can't pronounce Chinese name correctly. So they end up no choice and has to change their name in English written method.
the カン・ウー is the more correctly way of pronunciation. (which can't be written in English, since they pronounce "Uu" as "Yu".)
