ya this is really messed up stuff. and in some states, people fear speaking about politicians or investigating them, cause of fear of getting fired, or assassinated, or something like that.
how is society expected to trust these people when there is so much secrecy and no oversight
and security? I wonder how China keeps its politicians in check?

That kind of stuff is the norm in politics. I can't even count on one hand how many politicians I've heard of in Philadelphia receiving gifts.
