I prefer a mixture of both, looks and effectiveness.
Have to look good while going "fast" through missions.
(I don't have to time attack missions, but I don't feel like being in a mission too long either, it's seems like a waste of time)

That's how I feel too. I like good weapons, but if the axe that's 4000 att looks like shit probably I will take the 3500 instead.
What I really mean is that if I need to do a time attack probably I will pick the shit-powerful weapon if neccesary, but for normal runs in which I don't need to get in the ZOMFGNOES-I-DID 0.5-SEG-MOAR!!, I prefer to look reasonably good while being reasonably powerful.
And with cool, I don't mean to pick a character, pick the flashier clothes and the rarz-cute-good-looking weapons, I just mean to have weapons that mach my character and make me feel comfortable. It happens that most of my favorite weapons are normal weapons that you can mass-produce and synth without too much trouble, like Soda Riban, Vish Kuseb, Card Regas, Serdote, Shato...

Even if they were better, the fact that they're a damn 2D paper weapon just renders it more useless to me than a simple 1* weapon. To play 2D I still have my GBA.
I dunno. For something as thin as Crys' FACE(:3) they still look good.
