Q: Do I have to choose the same character I want to do runs with?
A: Nope as long as your ID# matches you'll be fine.

Q: But Free Course users can't receive stuff!
Not really a question but I have an answer.
There's no restrictions for Free Course users, they can run GC missions and pick up anything that drops.
