I didn't say they were out of ideas. I said that the game (from what little we've seen so far) seems heavily PSO-focused. Catering to the fans is great, but what I'm saying is that the PSO throwbacks are overdone. They're a main selling point for the game, and have been for very Phantasy Star game since PSO. If your main selling points are fanservice and throwbacks to an older game, something isn't right. Read what I said- I'm not against PSO references in future games, provided it doesn't come at the expense of new, original ideas. I also said that we've seen very little of the game so far, and there's still plenty of time for Sakai and his team to show off more of the new features.
The main problem with PSO is that fans have a rose-tinted vision of it. It was a brilliant game, but ultimately it's one that's 10 years old and looks it. What I'm wanting to know is when the team behind Phantasy Star games will finally let it go and make something completely new. The odd name-drop here and there, the odd item/monster/boss from PSO is fine, but if it'll come at the expense of anything else. It's pointless to try and convince some people, so it's better if we just see what else PSP2:I has planned.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I hope PSP2:I is great for reasons other than throwbacks. If it has a solid amount of gameplay (like PSP2) and some interesting new features (which it may do, but we need more details on them), I can put up with throwbacks. Besides, do you really think I'd have put so much time into JP PSP2 if I was completely against PSO throwbacks?
If PSP2:I isn't the 10th anniversary surprise I'll be pretty happy. A new PSO game could be interesting, but it'd depend on how it was executed in the end.
