OHAY You probably don't know this, but if the mission was using only the ring set and looks like it was in the desert, then you saw Cmode2-2 in which the party ONLY USES SHIELDS for about a block and a half into the mission.Try watching some youtube videos, one guy ONLY uses a shield the entire time. Not really as special as you make it out to be. Still gotta be decent at exact guarding to make sure it doesn't kick your ass. But not OMG LETS THROW A PARADE special O ^Ob
I'm lvl 50 (Human Vanguard) and still using a Claw/Shield combo on my palette incase i find myself against a mob or mobs that are hitting me just hard enough to temp stun me (i.e. knock me down). P Block one and pull off a Bukuh Saien-zan exact counter to knock them down, then move and proceed by picking one and pull out w/e twin weapon i have with it's elemental weakness and beat on it till it's dead. They're by no means the be all - end all of the game, but they have their uses
granted, to each his own, but that's how i work :P
