Did the spanish invade in the 1600s? Because the current long count started somewhere around then. (According to Wikipedia, the long count is about 394 years) That said of course, December 21 2012 is really no different from December 31 1999 (or 2000, if you want to technical about it)

Hm, as I recall, they were wiped out by the Spanish. There's also the same issue with the world ending on December 21st, 2012 that came about with the whole World-wide Computer Crash of 2000; There's TIMEZONES. It won't be December 21st the same time in the UK as it will be in the USA. It wasn't midnight on January 1st, 2000 the same time in the USA as it was in the UK. In the end, we have to look at the facts; Nothing happened in 2000, but people were freaking out about that too. If you think about it, there's really not that great of a chance this will be it.
