I am currently wondering what advantages rods have over tails. I know rods can be used as melee weapons, and do more damage on a normal attack than tails, but is that the only advantage?
I just cannot see why a person would pick the rod over tails.

I have heard that Rod is supposed to power up your techs, but have yet to see how does it do that.
Anyway, Rods are better melee weapons and have higher T.Attack, which means (slightly) stronger melee attacks and techs. Although it didn't make much of a difference in POBT.

On topic: I think the advantage of rods is the "generally" higher technique attack strength, and simply the fact that some people like to be in the fray for combat. Although personally after trying out the Talis I can't imagine life without it.
