I am currently playing a ranger however the only thing I ever hear of a ranger doing is launcher spamming. . . Are there any other viable weapons as a ranger or should I just switch over to a hunter? Also, what weapons do hunters use, are polearms viable in PSO2?
Assault rifles are good.
Never underestimate the assault rifle. Apart from critical hits from launchers, their damage can often match launcher damage, it just seems like less due to multihits. Mobility + weak bullets make them my personal preferred choice.

Assault rifles have pretty low damage to start off with, but once you get the right skills it has really good single target dps.
I find Rifles to be very useful in boss fights, since they allow me to stay on the move and avoid attacks from the boss. Launchers very useful against mobs, on the other hand.

This rifle itself isn't that good, there is something other at works, mine that is at +9 hits at best 5400 with sneak shot at lvl10 and both Weak Hit advance maxed on weak bulleted weak spots.
Rifle = Single target
Launcher = Multiple Target
