If it really is that bad, can someone explain the positive ratings?
I'm considering pulling out my ancient iTouch for this, but I'm not sure the battery would last long, being as intensive as this game is.

Yeah, the reviews I've seen have said it's a pretty good port.
It is actually a pretty nice port. A little confusing at first, but then again, that's because the game is a bit unusual in the first place (and of course doesn't come with a paper manual this time). The Twitter integration is pretty interesting, and adds relative chatter to the random people in various places. I just leave the Twitter listener on TWEWY all the time, and it just feels surreal to have people walking around talking about relative TWEWY information gathered from the real world's tweets. Sometimes, TWEWY announcements.
Kind of gives that almost Dot Hack layer to TWEWY that way.
It seems to be worth it if you want to replay through it or if you never played it at all. The additional features it has over the ds version wont be the reason i'd buy it though, its sort of just the "icing on the cake"... very tasty icing<3
