    ..on another note,

What do you guys think could be improved on in "lightning's saga"
Although the story suffered, XIII-2 was a big improvement and did fix some of the main issues people had with the game (obviously the whole "linear" problem of the first game)

Simply put, the game has it's fair share of flaws. Maybe there are people who dislike the game because of its spin-offs, but most people are just pointing out issues with the original game.
It was the first 3D Final Fantasy, yes, but it was done in 1997, an era where other game developers tried new things outside the comfort zone and most of the time they became spectacles. But it was the one that turned the series into a mainstream franchise in the West, so despite its game flaws it did something right.

So even though its not a 'perfect' game, it is the most well-known, the most profitable in its time, and consequently, the most overrated and milked. And as we all know, the popular ones get lots of unjustified hate.

Developers should go outside of their comfort zones. Putting in effort doesn't mean that these games are above criticism, though.

It's just very easy to criticize FFVII because it is a very flawed game, regardless of the reasons behind these flaws. If anything, I think a lot of people (myself included) are willing to overlook some of them specifically because it was Square's first effort on the platform.

I don't think anyone can argue the first point, since its true. Especially nowadays when all we get are console movies and generic games, with a few shadowed gems in between. 13 is a good example of the former.

And yeah, its the smart move to simply take the fact that it was the first attempt at 3D gameplay into consideration when it comes to the game's quirks. Not to say that SE fixed them all in the later games.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII announced.

"Square Enix has announced Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII during the franchise’s 25th anniversary celebration events in Shibuya and Seattle.

A sequel to Final Fantasy XIII-2, the game will be Lightning’s last battle. It “is much more active, and the world features much more interactive environments than before,” according to producer Yoshinori Kitase. “Players can control Lighting as they see fit,” and can explore the environment at will.

You will be able to ‘exhaustively customize’ Lightning in a number of ways. She will have a large number of costumes, and her abilities will change depending on which weapons and armor she has equipped. And there are some big weapons! She is also now able to jump, hang off ledges, duck, and hide behind ledges.

“This is the most customization you’ll be able to do with a Final Fantasy character,” said a Square Enix rep.

The sequel introduces a brand new battle system, which promises action unlike any other Final Fantasy before it, while retaining some of the elements the you’ve come to know and love.

The rep continued: “The level of control is at an all new level. You will be able to control Lightning’s movements while in battle.”

Lightning Returns is set hundreds of years in the future in an area called Novus Partus. Its biggest city is called Luxerion. The game’s story is centered around the concept of a “Doomsday Clock,” a 13-day countdown to the end of the world.

“Every region, every locale is subjected to this clock,” said a Square Enix rep. There will be a day and night cycle, and shops will open and close based on this clock. A monorail system, which connects to the islands of the world, is even subjected to the clock. You will have the option of adding more time to the clock in order to slow the world’s demise."
