Judge #2 here. As promised, I'll be posting my comments as well. Since I'm at my most intelligent when trying to get out of doing work, I have copypasted Olaf's post and replaced his comments with mine. I is smart. Now then, I'm pretty sure I gave out the lowest average score of the judges, so if Olaf's comments have you feeling pretty good about yourself, then, maybe, cash your chips in and don't look.

Before we get to that though, let me tell you how I did my scoring. I did the standard 10 point scale, with 5 points being strictly middle of the road average. I won't post the scores I gave to each picture, just the comments. I valued two things above all else in pictures: originality of concept and quality of the shot. Quality doesn't mean graphics setting, but things more like, is the picture zoomed too far/close, is the HUD on, is the angle a good choice, etc. Not to say you couldn't score high if you only had one or the other but the high scores were carried by at least one of them.

It’s a nice closeup of a rare weapon, but there’s nothing else particularly striking about the shot and the picture is cramped, in regards to the environment it is trying to capture.

#2: Sephirah

Nice action shot in the field. The player in the air in the background is a nice addition. It could be the cover of a game box. The item clutter on the ground detracts from it a little, though.

#3: Limbo_lag

A good serene shot that captures the mountain range in the background in a good place. It’s a nice choice to have the character looking away from the camera, but she’s looking a little too far away.

#4: Sizustar

Props for the amount of people it captures, but there’s so many, they’re more like litter on the ground than individuals on the scene.

Amusing concept. Leaving the HUD on without cause takes away a lot though.

Half the picture is taken up by the elevator and there’s little interesting about the other half apart from being an elevated view of the lobby.

I’d like it more if it captured more of the sky and less of the ground. I feel like the idea here was to capture Ragu nee-chan’s form semi-obscured in the blizzard, giving it that menacing silhouette type look. Melitta’s face doesn’t help.

Good scenery shot. It’s nice to have an entry with no characters or monsters in it.

Walking away from the explosion without looking is a fine concept. But, the explosion obscures too much of Vader to really appreciate what she’s walking away from. It would be better if the camera were turned up toward the sky and if the shot were taken before the explosion really gets out of hand. The HUD isn’t helping either.

Flower field on the bottom, snowy mountains in the back, woman in a wedding dress in between. All very good stuff.

Good concept. The bloody rain makes the tundra look drastically different than most of us are used to seeing it. Would be nice if the characters weren’t just standing there though.

A shot that would benefit it the camera was tilted at a rising angle; it would get more of Ragne. Aside from that, it’s the standard, “standing over a fallen boss” pic that we’ve seen dozens of in the thread.

Decent shot of the sisters. I can’t really give that much credit to a shot taken during an event tablet, honestly.

Content is cool. Could have stood to wait for a frame where the steam wouldn’t have obscured the faces like that, though.

This is a great one. Hair blowing in Vader’s suction is a nice touch (though it should be blowing the other way, but that’s on Sega). Might have been better if the character were fleeing from it, but it’s still a fine shot.

Good concept. I guess. I don’t much see the fascination with rappy suits, but I can appreciate the orchestration that went into getting this many rappies together and making a rappy pile.

#18: Sukkrl

It's a good picture. Character occupies just the right amount of space in the picture and is a little off center, allowing for a nice view of the scenery as well as the character. Still, I think an entry in this contest needed to be more than just a picture of a nice character with a nice background.

Same as above, it's a nice picture of a novel character, but as a whole, I don't think there's that much in this picture. It would be a great entry to a character contest, for instance.

Excellent scenery shot of a part of the field we don’t normally see, or pay any attention to.

Leaving the grass intact was a nice call, as was finding a place where you could capture water and the mountain in the background. It's a shot of a nice repose.

: Decent action shot. The dust trail on his feet is a good catch that gives the picture a sense of motion.

Great action shot. Very nice to see one not pointed at the ground. The mag’s placement sours the shot a little, since it covers up the character’s upper body.

It’s a picture of a rappy. A fuzzy picture of a rappy.

I don’t want to hold graphics against a picture, but the other characters’ models aren’t even loaded. It’s a shame too, because that’s a nice capture of a projectile effect.

Nice capture of the lightning needle. The character could stand to be doing something a little more dramatic though, like a pose that evokes imagery of calling down the thunder.

I’ve made this criticism a few times already; it’s a shot a fine looking character against a nice background. It’d make a good character contest entry, but as a whole, it’s lacking. Point for catching the eyes closed though; makes her look pensive.

Amusing concept, though the way the picture is taken, it’s not immediately apparent what’s happening. Would have benefitted from a much better angle. Also, HUD. Granted, the text wouldn't have shown up, but the chat log could have been closed at least.

A bizarre looking character to be sure, but I don’t have any appreciation for “bizarre for bizarre’s sake.” Other than that, it’s a picture of the lobby

I feel like there’s some wasted potential here. It’s a good photo op, with the picture being framed by tentacles, but the focus of the picture doesn’t really take advantage of it.

I disagreed with the other judges here. I didn't find this picture particularly enthralling. It's not a boss kill shot, but it looks enough like one that I didn't see anything really novel in this picture. I don't think I gave this a bad score, but I certainly didn't pick it to win.

Here’s a good use of Sneak Shooter. It’s very sniper esque and the use of the tall grass is excellent.

A nice capture of Trick Rave, though, shots in the campship are relatively easy to take.

Cool capture of Rumbling Moon. Still, it would be better if she were facing the camera. And maybe take the shot somewhere brighter, or at least out of the shade.

Nice content; I'm sure a lot of people miss the rainbow in the Urban map. I'm always happy to see pictures with the angle pointing up, though I guess that was a given, this being a picture of a rainbow. Would have been better for the character to be facing the screen though.

Good capture of Messiah Time. Getting the bullets in the shot was a nice touch.

Ah, I really like this one. The room is decorated superbly in the style of a bar, and someone went to the trouble of gathering enough people to give it a populated appearance. It’s simple, but it’s a picture that showcases the social atmosphere our rooms allow us to create.

This was the only one I gave a 10/10 to, and, duh, was my pick to win.

Oddly, I would have liked this picture more without the beize. It would have been a picture of some of the architecture in the game's world, which we barely see any of. Plus, the character's casual pose would have made more sense. As it is, I think the beize ruins the atmosphere of the shot.

This is a nice one. There’s a lot going on in this picture, and the character is dodging it all. I took a point off because the colors of the outfit mix with the gun and make it hard to immediately perceive what’s going on. Another outfit, or the same one in contrasting colors and it’d be a perfect score.

Getting the dinian leaping in the back is cool. Rising Edge looks pretty boss with that sword.

This is one of those shots that would have benefitted from being taken a few frames earlier or later. As it is, the Vol Dragon’s flame washes out a good chunk of the shot.

Maybe it’s just the weapons, but this is a lovely shot. The character takes up just the right amount of the screen area, not dominating it, but not being so far that the dynamic force of the pose is lost.

I like how it looks like an impromptu shot with the ground not being level in the picture. The pose is good, and it's probably the one case where taking a picture with the character not facing the camera turned out for the better. Personally, I don't like that bush that looks like it's in front of the lens, but it's not such a big deal since it doesn't obscure the character at least.

Standard boss kill shot, not much to say about it. Marlu being dead in the corner is a little amusing though.

The zany, the random, and the bizarre don't hold much, if any, appeal for me. I don't take off points for that, but I consider, if you take away the rappy suit, you have a normal looking character lying down in front of Quartz Dragon. So, it's not a particularly interesting picture to me.
